Breedy did a blind review of this stick here and, I have to say, I'm a bit nonplussed, having now torched one from the same order, at his level of, aaah, underwhelmedness.

Maybe it's the shoes. :D

I've been letting mine rest untubed in my humi for a couple weeks now, and decided to torch one for a review.

Anyhoo . . . the basics:

God of Fire Carlito Double Robusto tubo 2006: 5 3/4" X 52, immaculately constructed like all the high end Fuente cigars. Just a beautiful, beautiful cigar.

Libation: George T. Stagg Straight Kentucky Bourbon.

Entertainment: Mad Men, Season 2, Episode 3 (I'm watching online)

This was a terrific cigar! The first half inch or so was full of pepper and wood, and then calmed down to a smooth, leathery spice. At around the halfway point, it really picked up, delivering notes of dry, toasty spice, mostly black pepper, with hints of sweet leather. Burn was slightly off, but self-correcting, and no touch ups were required. In the last third, it became really strongly flavored and full-bodied, with some coffee bean and earth flavors.

The main thing I find attractive about the GOF series is the sense of restrained power, something I love about the Camacho Scorpion as well . . . with every puff, even when the flavors are not overwhelmingly full-bodied (as they do become, in the last third) there's a whole body reaction of "woah . . . strong!" that I really enjoy. Full tilt boogie cigar buzz sets in about halfway down the stick . . .

All in all, this was an extremely enjoyable cigar . . . worth the price? Hard to say, since few cigars I smoke regularly reach the $22 price point I paid for this one. But I certainly found it a noteworthy, unique, and pleasurable smoke.

Gotta be the shoes. :D

Nice review! This is one of my favorite cigars. I'm not wild about the Carlos blend, but the Carlito's really do it for me for some reason.

Yep. I too am a fan. I don't quite think they're worth the price of admission (After all, they are a Prometheus product), but I do enjoy them. Nice review.

Glad you enjoyed it and thank you again for your generous gift

By no means was the GOF in my Blind review a bad cigar. At around 10-12 dollars I could see keeping a couple in stock. At 22-25 dollars, well there isn't really much at the price range that I have a lot of. I do have a GOF Carlito 05 DR that I am saving for next spring/summer and I am interested to see how it compares.

Nice review Boar and again thank you.

I've got an '05 Carlito that will be a year old in March. Can't wait to test it out and see what all the fuss is all about.

I think the untubed humi time made a significant difference, frankly. This one really smoked like a well-rested, almost perfectly acclimated cigar. And the Stagg bourbon was a wonderful complement.

Glad you enjoyed yours. It was fun sending something like that on a blind review!

I still want to try one of this, I too have read a few reviews saying they are not worth the price of admission, but I'm always game to trying full bodied cigars.

I believe these are the best Cameroon wrapped cigars out there and I think they're worth the cost. I don't like the tubos (I remove them and let them rest whenever I get one).

Granted, I don't smoke these frequently or while fishing, mowing, snow blowing, etc., but they are always impeccably constructed, and always very tasty. The Churchill and the Double Robusto are both outstanding. They are excellent "treats" when I want something special and have the time. These, and Padron 40ths are the only two readily available ciagrs in that price range that are "worth it" to me.

I don't care for the Don Carlos blend as much.

Nice review!
