I was gifted by a close friend some Montecristo's. He has given me some wonderful legit cigars in the past.. But this time around he was gifted 2 boxes from a friend of a friend. :sign: . And has no room so he gave me 3 to try..

Upon close examination the cap appears evident..but not very clean as I have seen in many other MC i have smoked. Band ssems good..construction is decent.

The smell is strong tobacco with small subtle hints of sweet fruit.

I keep wanting to say it is a Montecristo #1.. But it seems to be longer.

The cigar measures 7" with a ring guage of 42.

Does montecristo make cigars of that size?

It seems to fall inbetween the "A" and the #1.

I know the only way to tell is to smoke it.. And I will but just curious as to what you all might think..

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks..

Taking a look on Habanos SA, the Monte No. 1 is 6 1/2 inches by 42 ring gauge. The Tubos is 6 1/8 inches by 42 ring gauge. That is the closest that I can get to your description. They don't show any sizes between the two. Sounds like what you have is a long londsdale, but the list I looked at doesn't suggest Montecristo makes that size.

Sorry, not much help, I know.

There is also a Edicion Limitadas that comes close:
2005: Montecristo D (6 5/8 x 43 lonsdale)

close, but no cigar ;)

I went out and re-measured it just to be safe..
This time i took a pic of it.

Cubans are triple capped. That one isn't. My $.02.

Well, you can send them into Professor KB for more indepth studies, but those montis aren't making the grade. Give them out to people who don't know any better! :p Next we will see a thread in buy/sell/trade saying

"Newbies wanting some ISOMs"! :sign:

The pic does not show the triple cap too well.
You can barely make out the third cap.
When i took the pic i focused on the ruler.

I agree with RL..the cap is sloppy..
But I have seen some sloppy caps on some great habanos..

Im still thinking fake..

I will let it sit a bit longer and light one up..

I was gifted some Cohiba fugazi's recently. I smoked them and they were surprisingly good. I wish I knew what they were. To me, the worst thing about a gifted fake is getting a good one and not know what it is.

I think it just plain sucks that a) We can't buy cubans in this country and b) There are so many fakes out there that when you are able (out of the country, non-us citizen) you have to worry about the cigars you're buying being legit. There f-ing cigars people, why can't just one thing is this world be good and free from scumbags and con-artists.

Fuggit, take the band off and smoke it as if it were a $1 Consuegra. If it turns out to be a $5 Hoyo Excalibur, you would be happy right? And if that $1 Consuegra turns out to be a short filler ISOM training cigar, you would be happy right? And if that $1 Consuegra turned out to be a Mexican knock off of a Montecristo #1, you would be happy you didnt pay for it, right? LOL Put some fire to and for-ged-abowd-it.

Well finally smoked one..

It smoked well for the first 2" than after that all hell broke loose..

The wrapper started to fall off.. the taste became very flat and muted.. than it continued to go out and the burn was so uneven.... Horrible experience.. I gave up 1/2 way thru.. And decided to perform an autopsy..I guess i was not suprised at all to find short filler..

Well I ended up giving one to Ggiese..So I am waiting to see what he says..LOL! :whistling:

Thats a complete bummer. Well what id do in a case like that is fire me up a padron(or your favorite in your humidor)and chalk it up to experience.

Sounds to me like you knew the difference though. And not everybody can do that.
