Alright guys, I've been doing a lot of research to ensure that I get the humidor that will work out the best for my purposes. Before you guys say it, I know I need to go bigger, but I want to get a nice humidor to put on the desk as sort of a "conversation piece" if you will, and once I fill it up I have every intention of going the coolerador route! The first humidor I was looking at was a 100 ct which would be double the space I have now, but, after reading more and more on CP I've decided to go bigger. This is the humidor I think I'm going to be getting assuming nobody on here has anything negative to say about it.

Originally I wanted something with a glass top, exterior hygrometer and an accessory drawer. I've read up quite a bit here on CP and have come to the conclusion that exterior analog hygrometers rarely work and that glass tops can cause some issues. I probably wont be pulling the trigger until about mid February, but I want it to be an informed decision. What do you guys think?

Go for it, man.

From my personal experience, I had trouble maintaining consistent humidity with the smaller desktop humidors I tried. The only thing that's worked consistently and worry-free for me is the vinotemp (and a big tupperware for my singles). I think I have a seal problem with the 100-count desktop that I bought, so it could just be me.

Everyone's mileage may vary, but my advice is to check into a vinotemp from the get-go. Even if you don't fill it up with smokes right away, they do a pretty damn good job of keeping wine at the right temp as well.

I'll definitely have to look into a vinotemp. Currently I just have a 50ct, so upgrading to a 300 will be a big step which I am greatly looking forward to. Once I fill up the 300 I'll probably be at the point where I am beginning to buy more boxes at which point I would expand to a cooler/vinotemp. Thanks for the advice!

*Out of curiosity what kind/how big is the vinotemp you use? Do you store wine in it as well, or just the cigars? Thanks!

I have a 28 bottle vinotemp. Got it when Target had them on sale for $139. With tax and shipping it came to about $192. This was back in June of 2008. I took out most of the racks, use the bottom portion for boxes, and keep the top two racks for wine (about 8 bottles total -- just enough to keep my wife satisfied). Though I'm starting to think I may have to commandeer the remaining racks...

I think this is a very nice humi. I almost pulled the trigger on this one. If it would have been black I would have. You can always manually calibrate your analog hygrometer. I'm big on things matching. This particular box wouldn't match my home decor. I did some research on it and I saw good reviews.

Also, you can get it cheaper on amazon. ;)

I promise you that it will be too small. I bet it holds about 100 or so. If money is an issue go with a cooler, if looks are the issue go bigger and look for a imperfect. I just got this one as a imperfect for $130 shipped. There isn't a single scratch or anything wrong with it. Plus its as big as it looks. But if you got the scratch I think its the right size, IMHO.. Though it looks funny on my desk. :D

Even though it as listed as a 300 Ct you think it'll only hold 100? I was worried this might be the case because I wasn't sure what type of cigars they use as a measuring stick. I know that whatever I get now, it'll end up being too small, but it'll be my first real humidor and no matter how many cigars I end up with I'll always want a humidor to be on my desk, possibly to hold the "smoke next" selection. I have every intention of growing into a coolidor or vinotemp, but at the moment I'm looking for something a bit bigger than what I have, and something I can display on my desk. I've been looking at the imperfects and have seen some really good deals, I'll have to continue to look into that. Thanks for the advise, I'll definitely keep it in mind.

I bought an imperfect from cheap humidors also, and couldn't find anything wrong with it. Here's a coupon code from them for 15% off (up to $50) good till the 26th: JANUARYDEAL

Thanks for the heads up on a really good deal! I might have to get the humidor before February after all!

I bought the 300-count glass top from Dave, and it works great....doesn't hold anywhere near 300, but it's full (Thanks CPers!), and I had a ball Tetris-ing the hell out of it when I was home for R&R. I've got my nice 50-count here deployed, and it'll funciton as my desktop in a couiple months when I come home. I'm gonna have to go coolerdore and I'm sure I'll be convinced to get a vino temp as well (The Lovely drinks wine like she invented it...).

Good hunting!

I think when they say it'll hold 300, they mean 300 Lanceros or other slim cigars. Once you start putting "big boy" cigars in there it won't hold near as much. Should have bought a cooler... :whistling:

1) I don't know if I'm ready for the big boy cigars! Nobody told me I had to grow up yet!!

2) I haven't bought it yet, but have every intention of doing both the desktop and the cooler so I can have both the aesthetics and the economics in check.

"big boy" as in bigger ring gauge. They take up a lot more room. Sorry!

Lol, I knew what you meant, I was just being a sarcastic ass! ???

I kind of assumed that they used smaller sticks to measure the quantity they could hold, but was never to sure about it. So, in reality, what would you guesstimate a 300 Ct could hold? (I guess this really does rule out me getting a 100-150 count humi!)

I have a 50, and a 25 ct desktop, and with normal (46-50rg) smokes it's almost cut in half. That's why I ended up buying a cooler. Plus I started buying whole boxes. Just an estimate though. That's why everyone always says "Go bigger than you think you need!"

Wow, cuts in half? Hmm.. Well I'll still grab the desktop, but might be putting that cooler together sooner than I had previously imagined!
