For whatever it's worth.....

Had to stop reading after "Rolls Royce of cigars".
Unfortunately, I don't know how many times I've been in a B&M and some wide eyed newbie comes in asking if they carry Gurkha. "It's the best cigar in the world".
I've had some (just a few blends) that were really decent, but the overhype is laughable.
What really gets me is when a Vendor says "We carry the real versions of Gurkhas, not the cheap versions they sell online"

I'll be danged if I'd buy the likes of a BBMF etc. with the intent of NOT smoking it. As for Gurhka, it's too early to swear this morning.

Playas gon play. And while I have little doubt that the smart investors have some amazing cigars, I gotta think the factor of diminishing returns is a heavy factor in these cigars. I feel very fortunate to have some $8-$12 cigars that are incredible. Would a $1000 cigar truly be that much better? I think I would likely puke after smoking one realizing I just flamed up $1000.

I bet there are a lot of cigar smokers out there who buy and smoke $30 bundles that think we are insane for spending $8 on a cigar.

I was pretty friendly with the manager of what used to be the best B&M in my area. (closed due to tobacco laws) He told me that JUST his Flor de Oliva bundles amounted to 30% of his overall sales. Pretty significant!

I have no doubt that is true. I would guess my locals is closer to 50% on bundles. We have a cigar lounge and seriously all of the guys I have met there smoke Rocky Patel or Gurkha and act like they are in tall cotton and have never heard of Tatuaje, Crowned Heads, Fuente or Warped. And CC's are unobtainable. I think those of us who enjoy these cigars make up a small percentage.
I quit giving most of these guys a cigar to try as they just stick them away for a deathbed smoke. Sad and kind of funny at the same time.

That's because the Gurkha's are the Rolls Royce of cigars, why would you want to smoke a Kia Rio. :D

That statement is the solid truth. Those of us who smoke quality cigars make up a small, small percentage of the cigar world. Worth remembering.

Most cigars are purchased on impulse and then thrown away chewed up and barely smoked.

Quoted from the article:

The appeal has widened according to the experts. “At one time the cigar smoking demographic was composed of, and marketed towards, the more distinguished and refined consumers,” says Rocky Patel, the owner of Florida-based Rocky Patel Premium Cigars Inc. but he says today smokers from “all walks of life” are interested.

I know he puts out a lot of cigars, but it just seems to me they went for the wrong "experts" in this article. It started out with talking about some lady owning a rather large collection of “special series, limited edition, vintage, aged and pre-embargo cigars,” then they jump to Patel. Horribly written article.
