Here's the thread I bought it in:

As for the lighter....it died a few weeks ago.

It was great, efficient / powerful...and handy!

I sent it in to Dupont Repair and they no longer have the parts.

They are offering me a 'special' price on a new Maxi-Jet (about $92 shipped).

Just a heads up if you have one of the OR XTend and it's failing.

Good to know. I have a MaxiJet...loved the thing, but its not even a year old and its givng me problems. There is something rattling around in the lighter now and the opening does not always close entirely after lighting. It's a pain.

How was customer service at ST Dupont? Good customer service like Xikar, or are they a pain?

Customer Service is fine.

As for the new Maxi....I was hoping they fixed that problem.

You can try a little rubbing alcohol on a Q-tip and clean the doors up...then a drop of oil.
Not even a drop....just rub an oiled Q-tip over the doors and open/closed them a few times!)

My X-tend went through the wash last week...I was worried that I had lost my baby, but with a little CPR, she was OK. Good to know they stand behind them though.

Thanks for the tip. I will give it a try.

5-in-1 oil works!

Don't get the 6-in-1 oil like depasta....it leaves a sticky residue!

Hmm, well that's good to know. Even if it's covered under warranty, will you be forced to get a new one?

I got a new one not too long ago and it went through the wash as well.
I'm surprised how durable it is.

Old thread, good news....the lighter is WORKING!

I got it back a while ago and I couldn't bring myself to throw it out.
In reading some other threads, the issue seemed to be a blown butane container that couldn't be fixed and there are no new parts for it.

Well, I decided to look at mine again and what do you know...the butane is holding.

Hmmmm?!

I tear it down again, this time taking the silver depression lever off as well.
I then manually hold open the top and depress the 'scissors elbow' that activates the piezo ignitor.

Poof...starts right up!

In looking at the silver lever there seems to be a metal insert that is concave - this is the point at which 'elbow' rests when you depress the lever and activate the ignitor.

Well, it's WORN...I mean just so slightly....but worn. Very tight tolerance.

I take some J-B Weld and put a small coat on the concave metal, let it sit overnight, reassemble....Poof....all is working again!

Love this lighter!
