She's not quite new but her fame I think is fairly new.

Anyway, check her out- I can't get enough, her sound is just beautiful.

Adele

I have been listening to her for quite sometime. Like Amy Winehouse less the train wreck

Check Kate Nash

Man, something about those quirky British chicks!

Good stuff! Up there in the ranks of Regina Spektor.

Agreed. I've been listening to her last album for the past few weeks.

I got to live with my wife bitching about me. I'll be damned if I listen to music with women bitching' about other men. Now this is a female vocalist.

Doc.

I just caught onto these guys after they one a Grammy. Rhiannon Giddens can belt it out.

Let's not forget about Lauryn Hill, Etta James, or Ella Fitzgerald.

Being an older fellow, I still love some of the singers from my youth, and consider them to be amongst the greatest:

Judy Garland
Barbara Striesand
Julie Bud
Doris Day

More modern Vocalists who I enjoy tremendously, with the right material:

Celine Dion (great voice, mostly lousy songs and interpretations)
Joan Osborne (this girl has some serious chops, imho)
Amy Lee
And of course, Janis.

Janis, Etta, Bonnie.

Maria Muldaur, definitely. Down here in Texas Marcia Ball, back in the PNW, Duffy Bishop.

For the less bluesy stuff, I will admit to a great fondness for the thinking man's babe, Natalie Merchant.

Did you just call Janis 'modern'? Dan, I hate to break it to you but Janis Joplin has been dead for nearly 41 years!

Gotta give some credit to: Kate Bush, PJ Harvey, Bjork, Joan Armatrading, Dido.

PJ Harvey is actually pretty well respected in the audiophile community.

Janis isnt necessarily mdern if your age. At my age, yes.

Stu? Meet Dan. He's still not quite used to the off-key caterwauling of the Beatles on the old Sullivan Show.

Doris Day?You're letting your crank think for your ears. How I remember those fantasies, along with Haley Mills and Annette Funicello. :0

Well, you may be on to something there, Doc, cause as soon as I read this, I remembered having a crush on her when I was a grasshopper.

Oh yes, Annette was a hottie too!
