Hey guys, Once again i'm really new to cigars. I'm gonna be making a tupperdor and i heard you could use floral foam. Why exactly do I do with this floral foam. Any help is appreciated.

Get the beads from Viper. You won't be sorry.

I am not affiliated in any way with Viper, just a happy customer.

edit: to fix the linky.

Buy the one that absorbs water(distilled) not resists water.
The oasis foams are good but the only problem is that you have to keep an eye on the humidity level cause it will go up and down fast. Make sure that you use CALIBRATED hygrometers. Don't be like me and not calibrate both of my hygrometers and ruin some cigars. They were off by 18%. Thats life you live and learn. I purchased the little havana works great......

I use Oasis WET floral foam and PG/water. It's just what works for me.

Make sure to use the kind that is used for live/wet arrangements. If it doesn't soak up water, you've got the wrong type. Typically, the wet foam is much softer than the dry foam.

If you are going the tupperware route, that means the container itself will be on the smaller side...so I'll have to put in another vote for beads from Viper. You can get bead tubes which are about the size of a Churchill cigar, which would save you some space I would imagine...

Good point, JeffB. I forgot about the size factor. In cramped space, a no-muss bead tube is definitely the better way to go.

you can buy beads from Viper, they work well, or

go to florist. pick up a clean new piece of green Oasis (absobant kind!)
cut it with a knife to fit into a jar. I have mine in a rectangle shape, standing up inside a beaker, beacause your looking for maximum surface area.
Then moisten with a 50% propylene glycol/distilled water solution. you can get a pint from your pharmacist.

I use both methods, beads and foam, and get good results. (Beads are just less maintenance).

I vote for the beads - they are bulletproof - I have the 65 beads, and they are always dead on with my digital hydrometer :whistling:

Ive tried messing around with the PG and oasis foam...too much work. Just toss in the beads and forget about it.
