Cut out of work today because my friend PJ called up and asked if I wanted to go fishing. We headed out to Freeport and got on a Bass/Blue charter for 4 hours. $42 bucks, including the pole and pool. Nobody caught a keeper Bass (only 2 or 3 were caught), and one guy caught 10 blues (and won the pool). As we departed, I lit up an Indian Tabac Super Fuerte Toro Maduro (box pressed) that I got in a sampler pack from beelzebid. Damn tasty and fairly cheap smoke that I'd definitely consider buying a box of. Just as I finished that, I caught a stingray that was probably 15-18" wide. Man, can those things put up a fight, it was even fiercer when the crew member was trying to get the hook out of it's mouth!
A little while later I lit up a La Flor Dominicana Ligero L-300 Oscuro (from the recent group-buy, another tasty box-worthy stick) and caught an 18" Fluke. Since I don't eat fish, and PJ didn't want it, I gave it to this kid we were talking to most of the trip. The co-captain was hanging out with us for a while, and he said that last Thursday there was 45 Bass caught right where we were, 35 keepers or so - the best yet this season. 2 other guys caught flukes, one smaller than mine, one about the same size. After we docked, PJ and I headed to the bar/restaurant next to the dock and got some Sirloin burgers and played some Quick Draw (played 10, won 6 - yippie).
Twas a good hump-day night out. At least I caught something and we had a decent night wheather wise for smoking and fishing off the south shore of Long Island.
