Cut out of work today because my friend PJ called up and asked if I wanted to go fishing. We headed out to Freeport and got on a Bass/Blue charter for 4 hours. $42 bucks, including the pole and pool. Nobody caught a keeper Bass (only 2 or 3 were caught), and one guy caught 10 blues (and won the pool). As we departed, I lit up an Indian Tabac Super Fuerte Toro Maduro (box pressed) that I got in a sampler pack from beelzebid. Damn tasty and fairly cheap smoke that I'd definitely consider buying a box of. Just as I finished that, I caught a stingray that was probably 15-18" wide. Man, can those things put up a fight, it was even fiercer when the crew member was trying to get the hook out of it's mouth!

A little while later I lit up a La Flor Dominicana Ligero L-300 Oscuro (from the recent group-buy, another tasty box-worthy stick) and caught an 18" Fluke. Since I don't eat fish, and PJ didn't want it, I gave it to this kid we were talking to most of the trip. The co-captain was hanging out with us for a while, and he said that last Thursday there was 45 Bass caught right where we were, 35 keepers or so - the best yet this season. 2 other guys caught flukes, one smaller than mine, one about the same size. After we docked, PJ and I headed to the bar/restaurant next to the dock and got some Sirloin burgers and played some Quick Draw (played 10, won 6 - yippie).

Twas a good hump-day night out. At least I caught something and we had a decent night wheather wise for smoking and fishing off the south shore of Long Island.

Thanks for the report...better fishing report than alot I see posted on fishing forums.

I don't smoke when I fish. Most of the time I'm in a kayak and my hands are usually too full of rod and paddle. And fish! :D

Rob, did you go out on The Capt Lou? I went out on one of those cruises last week on the 4th of July at Point Lookout. I swear everyone on the boat caught some big fish, except me. I only managed to pull in 3 tiny fluke. Maybe they just don't like my cigars? I know the people around me didn't. One woman said "You gonna smoke that whole thing?" I said yup, and she moved to the other side of the boat! :D TAKE A HIKE LADY!!!

BTW, those biggest fish pools are a great idea. My mother (65 & loves to fish) actually won a few years ago. Close to $100.

Yup, that was the one! One of the "maids" kept teasing me about the cigars :p Aside from several clingy crabs, and tangle fishing lines, I was the only one on our side to catch anything - although one guy had and lost what was most likely a decent sized bass.

Heh thanks, I'm even more of a newbie at fishing than cigars

That's what the Cigar Caddy's are for :-p (mine came in quite handy on out camping trip 2 weeks ago, water and mud proof those things are ;) )

My cousin and I where out this past Sunday and caught 3 black bass. All keepers. Had a great time out on the water.

Did someone say kayak?

What kind? I've got a Necky Looksha IV, 16ft-er. I've not smoked while paddling yet, but then again, I can always try it! :D

I KNEW I'd get a hit from you, K'boy...

I've got a 6 year old W.S. Riot (they don't make 'em anymore) that at 9.5 ft. fits perfectly in the back of my pickup. I use it on the inshore flats for snook, reds, and trout. Best $600 I ever spent. Here's a pic of a redfish and my extremities.
