First I want to say thank you to LOCAL669 for the smoke. I have a few opus sitting in my humi but decided to make his my first opportunity to smoke one. Second thanks goes out to JonDot. Gifting out his opus to the 4 guys and all the talk in the thread sealed the deal for me.

Arturo Fuente
Fuente Fuente Opus X Perfecxion No. 5

Origin: Dom. Rep. .
Wrapper: Opus X rosado
Binder: Opus X rosado
Filler: Opus X blend

Place of purchase: Received from Local669

Smoking Results

SIZE: 4 7/8" x 40
APPEARANCE: The appearance was a nice, had one small vein running down the side, was a bit toothy
CONSTRUCTION: Was very good, firm to the touch, no soft spots
Cut: Cut with my Xicar x3
DRAW: Draw was a slight bit on the loose side
BURN: Was pretty good, needed two touch ups
FLAVOR: Was nice, very smooth, earthy flavors, cedar.... No spice detected though
STRENGHT: Was def. a full bodied smoke
SMOKING TIME: roughly 1 hr 15 min.
GENERAL IMPRESSION: A very nice experience, can see why everyone loves them

Lay out: I just finished my man cave in the garage. Currently carpeted a section with a tv, dvd, xbox, mini fridge and chair. I had a fresh brewed cup of vermont blend coffee black, I used my new Xicar x3 to snip off part of the cap. For a moment I was mesmerized by the art work of the band. The cut was real smooth, followed by a light with my single flame torch lighter. Preburn smelt fantastic, a new smell unlike other sticks i've currently smoked. It was lit with no problems and off I went.

Had a very smooth smoke, burn was nice and even. This stick was incredibly smooth. The flavor at this point was very earthy. I was expecting a spice to it, but nothing. Thinking this had some age to it. The ash was a peppery color. It held very nice and the form of it stayed intact, no flaking or anything. Ash held till about a inch

side note: Thank god for the undo button on my browser, accidentaly deleted my last paragraph.

Still smoking real nice, the flavor hasn't really changed for me, which is ok because i'm enjoying this very much. This stick is still very smooth, the earthy tones are still there. I'm starting to feel the affects of the stick. Its very surprising how smooth but strong it is. Towards the end of this third I tasted what I felt was a hint of cedar. Ash stayed for about a inch again.

At this point I had to correct a problem with the burn. After that it was smooth sailing. The earth and cedar hints continued and I am overly enjoying this experience. The strength of this smoke is now very apparent, a little light in the head but not in the bad way. This was put down with about a inch left to it.

This was a very enjoyable smoke. As I sit here and type this I have a very pleasant taste in my mouth. I still have 4 other sizes to try and I think my next will be the xXx power ranger. Well there goes another nice band to my collection. My idea is after collecting a lot of various bands, to make a nice picture with them that can be framed and put in my office.

Nice review. These are my favorite of the Opus line along with the #4s.

Don't try that xXx on an empty stomach. If the #5 got you a little "tipsy" the xXx could knock your socks off. It could also be very enjoyable and pleasant for you, but why take the chance?

Glad you enjoyed, that opus had a few years on it and was def. ready to smoke!! Mike is a great man to deal with, his payment was prompt and everything went smoothly. Thanks Mike!!

Nice review, the 5's and PL's are my favorites. Local669 is a great guy, always has the hook up!

Nice review sir. I love Opus. The fact the you have now smoke one and like it means there will be less for me.

Excellent cigar and excellent review. It always surprises me how long one of those little buggers lasts for. Maybe in part because I really try to pace myself when smoking Opus. Thanks again.

I do believe that is the understatement of the year! I can not even begin to express the gratitude I have for this outstanding BOTL! Thanks again Local669!

Very nice review Northern. Seems like everyone has very high opinions of this stick.

You inspired me to try a freshie I picked up.
It was okay.
Nothing like it will be in a few years.

Almost every Opus X thread that I read, everyone says that are so much better with age on them. I also know this is more a personally opinion, but for those of you are seasoned Opus smokers, how many years to let them sit?

Thats like saying how long can keep your x-mas presents there before you rip them open.

I'm not really that "seasoned", but I find at least 2 years of age to be pretty good and 4 is even better (I've not had one older than 4 years). A lot of people like them fresh, too. You just have to try them in various states of age and see for yourself. It is, after all, up to you how good they are at a certain age. Who knows, you may like them better fresh. :)

I knew the question I imposed was open to interpretation. I like the Christmas present response, that's so true. 2 years, wow that's a long time. Once I found a source where I can get them I will "try" and resist the urge. Thanks to local669, who was gracious enough to gift me one, I don't think I'm going to age it since I really want to, and I want to try it.
