First ISOMs

Well,

I've been in Montreal on business since Sunday, so I decided to cave and pay Canada's ridiculous prices for a couple of the forbidden fruit.

Decided on a San Cristobal El Principe ($15cdn) and a Partagas Serie D #4 ($27cdn - hey, I feel lucky, they wanted $70cdn for an Opus X single). Wanted to get a Upmann Mag. 46 and Cohiba Siglo IV too, but at $30 each single it was just getting way too expensive.

Smoked both tonight, the SC before dinner, the PSD4 after.

I don't have the faculties to give any in-depth review, but I definitely enjoyed both, the PSD 4 esecially so.

PSD 4 was among the best cigars I've had actually; though I must say I wasn't so spellbound that I won't be able to smoke NC anymore. Perhaps I'm not yet at the point to fully appreciate what I had.

For now I'll just go back to trying all the various cigars I can get without the hassle (maybe I'll try to get into some box splits though, they seem like such a better deal now).
 
The first cubans I had were while I was in Canada too. I enjoyed them alot but it's hard to feel like they were worth the crazy prices. A siglo VI cost $57 :0

. I nearly gave up on cubans altogether after that experience. But I went ahead and ordered some PSD4s and saw the cuban light. Those were some fantastic cigars. Now I just can't stop buying them! :laugh: There are many cubans that I thoroughly enjoy now.
 
A question:

While all the "famous" Cuban vitolas are insanely expensive here in Canada, there are some cigars at reasonable prices.

They're mainly very small (for cigarrs), petite corona or even smaller, and "only" $4-5 each. Are any of these worth buying? Most of the more notable brands have them (Cohiba, Hoyo, RyJ, Partagas, etc).

Are these a good way to get the cuban experience for less money, or the Cuban equivalent of Phillies Blunts?

try a cohiba siglo I, small cigar, but has all the flavors of it's larger cousins in the siglo line. one of my personal fav's and was my first ISOM, IMHO anyhow.

There are several short filler ISOMs out there that are good; but not great. If you are looking for some PC's, you might want to read this first.
 
Wow those prices are insane. Not sure if I would give up on cubans all together, but it would not be a part of my daily line up. Here in Cali with the taxes being so high 52% I can acutally get cubans at the same price of good non cuban smokes :0
 
My first was a Trinidad Fundidore, and it is still one of my favorites to this day (although a little overpriced).
 
My first was a Cohiba ? bought while on vacation in Spain, now known to be fake! It made me not want to try other ISOM's and to really wonder what the fuss was all about over them.

My first authentic was a Siglo IV form a BOTL here... and now I know! :love:

My experience is that smoking them will add to your enjoyment of cigars, not take away from the pleasure of consuming the usual suspects. A good cigar is a good cigar and only the smoker knows what that is.

I have never had a good ISOM that I got in Canada. Maybe the northern lack of humidity makes their storage tough. I stick to more tropical climes now for supply.
 
One day I will have my first and then I will come and tell you all about it.

Funny thing was that I visited a cigar shop in Cozumel a few years back... I walked around and thought how expensive everything was. I did not stay in there very long but I did buy a cheap cigar cutter there. Just the other day I found this cutter and looked at it... guess what it had on the cutter??? It was the LCDH logo on it... much to my surprise, I was in heaven and did not even know it. :(
 
My first was an El Rey del Mundo Lunch Club.
A wonderful little cigar, but it left me wanting more...
It was my first introduction to the dark side. :cool:
 
I found a box of 04 Trini Reyes, which I hadnt tried before, and picked one up today , at my local shop (in Canada), it was $16.50 CA or about $13 US. This cigar is outstanding. :thumbs: I will definately order a box of 24 from somewhere reasonable.
 
My first real ISOM was the PSD4 from a VERY generous BOTL here. Thanks Scot, it really turned my head, because the few supposed ISOMs that I had tried were dog rockets in comparison. Lesson here is don't take the word of your buddy who obviously doesn't know crap about ISOMs or anything else associated with cigars.
