Good news!

They have found and arrested the two guys that broke into our house! I guess they're small time meth users. They thought they were robbing the people that lived here three years ago. Their kids and these guys were pot smoking buddies. I guess they "graduated" to meth since then and were looking for some fast cash. It's a shame they didn't keep in touch.

Anyway, all of our stuff is pretty much gone. The few pieces of jewelry that were recovered will come back to us after the county is through with them but we won't get anything else back. "We're not in the property recovery business" according to the lead investigator, which is understandable.

There is no way of knowing exactly what is going to happen to these guys, but they are repeat offenders. The investigator has told us not to worry too much about any "repeat business" as these guys are very small time and in his experience repeat visits aren't that common in cases similar to this. Hopefully they'll at least do a little time.

It makes me feel a little safer, but the alarm system is still going in. We bought my boy some new toys to replace the ones taken and we replaced most everything else that can be replaced this week (I can't live without TV). Hopefully the insurance company will come through as promised and the cost will turn out to be very little or none in the end.

I want to thank the folks here who PMed, sent e-mails, and who sent me a few smokes during the last several days once again. You know who you are and the support means a lot. When I signed on here I never thought I'd consider people I've never physically met friends, but it appears I have a few here after all.

:)

Good to hear they got the scum off the streets, and everything is panning out Alan!

It's great they caught the SOB's! Shame you're not getting your things back though. Who knows, maybe some of it will turn up.

I'm sure these punks will be some guy named Bubba's new boyfriends.

Good to hear. Hopefully some of your other stuff turns up too.

Don't you mean girlfriends???? Hopefully they get a good dose of butt secks and it'll set em permanently straight... Good to hear your perp's got caught and you can finally get some closure... take care!
D

Hey man, I'm real happy that it turned out like this, I'm glad they got caught!! :D

I hope the Judge takes into consideration the motive for the crime not just the crime to hand out the maximum! Here in AZ I'm surrounded by tweakers or meth heads. Glad they got the sh!t heads! To bad about all the stuff you'll never get back though.

Nick

Good news, indeed!

Alan, while I haven't been completely active here lately, I consider you and many others here friends.

Best of luck handling this unfortunate situation,

Rob

Good news indeed Alan.

If you need any help, just shout!

Alarm systems are a big pain in the butt, for me anyhow. We have a sophisticated system that we never use. The system goes off too often for nothing.
Purchase a few crystals and place them all over you house, they will keep the bad energy out.

Glad to hear they caught the bastards.
I'm sorry to hear that you won't get most of your stuff back though.

Good luck with the alarm system...

Hey Alan,
You and I have not interacted yet, but I'm thrilled to hear these fools are being brought to justice. It's good that you will be getting some of your stuff back. I'm sure I'm not the only one here who has become more security conscious after reading the recent posts about theft...

Alan, for future reference, thieves are not the only worry. My brother has been a State Farm agent for 20+ years now. Grab your gazillion megapixel camera and do a walk through in your house. Shoot everything from as many angles as you can stomach. Write the pics to a disk and store that someplace besides your house - I keep mine at my office.

My insurance coverage is good, but will only replace that which I can prove I owned.

Great news. Hopefully some of the stuff they're returning to you is some of the irreplaceable stuff.

I have such an inventory db. We keep the backup in the safety deposit box on a CD. I was able to take my USB jump drive to the agent's office this time and it has helped a lot. The problem we're having is not proving we owned something, it's just a time thing. Our agent gave us one idea of how long it should take to get reimbursement and Allstate is saying something different. I think our agent was just being a little too optimistic and trying hard to not cause us anymore stress at the initial contact. It's all fine, though. We'll get the replacement costs sooner than later.

Thanks for the advice though. Everyone else who reads this should definitely take the steps they need to take to protect their belongings.
