Well I finally got it. For Christmas, my Father in law (the woodworker) decided (with the wife's coaxing) to build me a cabinet humidor. He had never made one so his first made me nervous. The cool thing is he decided to make it out of Cherry that his father had cut on their farm over 70 years ago (the trees were over 100 years old at the time). The wood had sat in the barn for that long and was well cared for. My father in law cut and planed all the wood, lined it with Spanish cedar and built the drawer and shelf. It looks unbelievable!! The pictures don't do it justice.

Only have a little to do to it before it is up and running:

-Clean the glass.
-Seal the door
-Put door closures on.
-try to get some of the sap off the cedar (any suggestions).
Fill it up!

Here are the pics it is approx. 37"X24"X17"

Sweet!

I'll be happy to send my shipping address if he would like to make another!

Very nice!

Just a guess, put I'm thinking if the Spanish Cedar is kiln dried and the sap is now hard, your best bet would be to use a fine grit sandpaper to remove the sap. I've heard that you should take precautions not to breath in the dust.

great woodwork - I know what that wood cost!

However, I don't see much seal on the door. That could permit the RH and temp of the room where this humi sits to invade the first few inches from the front, especially if your humidifier is passive (tube of beads).

Due to the angle it is hard to tell, but the trim on the inside of the door looks to match up with the inside frame to create a seal.

It does have an OK seal, but there is a little gap in the top right, I have not put any weatherstripping inside the door yet, but that and a couple of magnetic closures should solve the problem.

I plan on finishing her up today, will post a completed picture.

Sweet Humidor, you know the Father In-Law must really like you to do this. ;)

Dust from any mahogany is dangerous to breathe in. Be sure to use a dust mask.

Edit to say that's a very nice looking humidor!

Wow. My (soon to be) father in-law wanted to buy me some of his old favorite cigars...TOPPERS!
I graciously informed him that such a gift was unnecesary...I have "plenty" of cigars, and his daughter wouldn't be happy with him encouraging my habit

Wow. What a wonderful piece and a wonderful father-in-law! Congratulations Dan. Looks like you've got something your grandkids will be fighting over some day.
