Wow, I didn't think the Canadians knew much about beer, especially because of the French influence, but WOW, one of the best beers I've ever had!

Unibroque makes some damn good beer.

Unbelieveable stuff!

Fin du Monde and Terrible are by far my favorites. Maudite is also pretty good. I still have yet to try Tres Pistoles which I heard is great. One thing about these beers is that you want to drink them out of a tulip glass. A wine glass in a pinch will work, but a pint glass doesn't do them justice.

yep - dam tasty stuff. The four-pack thing is kinda a pain though. I'm also a big Lambic fan.

The tragedy of this is that there are 42 posts on the tasteless swill known as Budwiser Select and this will be the 5th on one of the best beers in North America!

More for us I guess!

A beer has to hit the sweet spot where it's selling enough to be financially viable but not so much that the quality goes off. Quite a trick if you can pull it off at all, let alone for any length of time.

The Master Brewer for Unibroue is actually Belgian. But yes, they put out awesome ales on lees with upto a shelf life of 7 years. :0 I still remember the first one I had. It was like Heaven in a bottle. As for the Fin du Monde, it wasnt bad either. I just wished the Midwest aka Missouri would get a better beer selection in. maybe I wouldnt be forced to homebrew so much. :whistling:

Did someone say Unibroue! I love the Terrible and this years limited edition "15" is not to shabby either. I would say this is one of the better beligan beers on the american market.

It's funny, but the french influence is probably a partial contributor to their excellent quality beers. Since these are Belgian in style and Belgium is so heavily influenced by the French. I prefer the Trois Pistoles myself.

The Terrible is my fave Unibroue product, it is anything but...as a Canadian, I don't find it surprising that the good brews come for Quebec.

Unibroue makes awesome, awesome stuff! Just finished off some Maudite last night.

They make their beers in the Belgian style, so if you like Unibroue, trying looking out for other Belgian (also look for what's called "Trappist" or "abbey" ales) or Belgian style beers.

Ommegang and Allagash are two US microbreweries that make good Belgian-style stuff.

Also, look for Belgian beers like Chimay, Delirium, Gulden Draak, Orval, Duvel, Rochefort, Duinen...I could go on for days here! :)

The Fuente family figured out how to do that with cigars. Now if someone could do it with the beer, as you say, we'd be all set.

Unibroue has Newfie. They do a style called Ales on Lees. Its a special bottling condition/fermentation process which allows the average shelf life of most of their products to be upto 7 years. yes, you read that correctly. When you pour a bottle of their beer, its pretty cloudy till the yeast settles out of suspension . Thus making for one damn fine beer and just remember, their head brewer is from Belgium so its no surprise or shock they have such outstanding quality of Belgian beers.

You can never go wrong with them as I have seen with Ommengang and a few others. They sit on the shelf past their prime and they are just nasty. Thus I havent given most of those that have been handled wrong another shot. Unibroue you pretty much dont have to worry about that.

The Unibroue is terrific stuff. The last bottle I had was the Chambly Noire. I'd second the recommendation of using the proper glassware. If I recall correctly, they show a picture of the recommended glass shape on the bottle. Proper serving temp is important too.

I find Belgian Beers to be much more cigar compatible than hoppy American Beers.

I see some KC area guys on this thread. If you haven't made it out to the Lukas at 135th and State Line, you really should. Probably the best beer selection in town. They have a tremendous selection of Belgians. The guy that runs the beer department posts updates at:

I have been out to Lukas and it is indeed a massive store with an excellent selection!

I tried my first Unibroue tonight, Le Fin du Monde paired with a JLP Petit Cazadore. What an delicious combo! This beer is outstanding!

Well guys, glad you like a Quebec products, well now Japanese owned (Sapporo) :(

But, I would rank Unibroue not even in the best breweries that the province offers, you might try Dieu Du Ciel (yes the brewpub is finally bottling), Bieropholie and finally Charlevoix.

Last year I had the pleasure to try, a Fin Du Monde aged 11 years and it was fantastic, the "Unibroue" yeast taste was completely gone which for me is a good thing, great experience.

But unfortunately guys, unibroue is not what it used to be :(
