Here goes yet another attempt.
Fuente Fuente Opus x Lancero
Size:7.5"X41
Release:2005
Beer:Bell's Two-Hearted Ale
Pre-light:
A perfect specimen. The wrapper was a deep reddish-brown, slightly toothy, and so oily it was slick to the touch. It was perfectly packed from one end to the other. It smelled, well, like high quality tobacco. The pre-light draw was suprisingly loose and heavy, tasting just like cinammon raisen bread. The cap was as beautiful as any cuban I have ever seen.
It was a bit difficult to light for such a small gauge, but once I got it there the room filled with rich smoke in moments.
The cigar started well on the side of mild. For about the first inch I was worried I would be disappointed. A touch of creamy coffe and a bit of spice on the finish. Good, but nothing great. Then at about an inch and a half something lit the fuse. The spice picked up rapidly. The flavors weren't creamy, but very smooth with a long coffee/cedar aftertaste that made me smack my lips. At three inches I finally helped the white/grey ash off. By this point it tasted a great deal like the double coronas without the peppercorns. The same three flavors repeatedly made their rounds making me puff faster just to see what I would get next.
The burn was nearly perfect. There were two problems, but they rapidly fixed themselves. The draw was a bit too easy so I had to be careful as there was more than enough smoke for two people.
I laid the cigar to rest with an inch left, comfortably in a coma of bliss. The nicotine was a bit prevalent for my tastes, but was well worth it.
The overview:
It goes to show that Fuente cannot make a poor cigar, even on a bad day (just my opinion). It wasn't the most complex of cigars, but the smooth flavors were so good I wouldn't want anything else in the way. Smoke this one on a FULL stomach. It smoked as beautifully as it looked. In humble opinion this goes right up there with the Fundadore and the Lancero as one of the greatest small gauge cigars of all time.
I highly recommend.
Score: 9.9 (It lost a tenth of a point for making me dizzy )
