I'm trying to broaden my horizens in the hobby of cigars. I would like to know what magazines or books you like to read often. The only one I know of is Cigar Aficionado Magazine. Please state your favorite and help a bro broaden his horizens about cigars too. Thanks fellas!!! :thumbs:
 
ECCJ- European Cigar Cult Journal for a periodical and Min Ron Nee's "Encyclopaedia of Post-Revolution Havana Cigars" or Gerard's "Havanas" for books.
 
Another vote for Min Ron Nee.

Gotta go with Smoke Magazine. CA has gotten away from the cigar world. Smoke Magazine is more down to earth and focuses on cigars and tobacco more than CA. I may be a little biased because Smoke has used me a couple times to rate cigars.
 
OK, Min Ron Nee's book, absolutely invaluable for information on Cubans. (May be more than you ever wanted to know, especially the descriptions of Anniversary and Commemorative humidors. WOW!)

A handy little book is Sonia Weiss' "The Cigar Enthusiast", good basic information to get you started, then you can disagree with her as you learn/get told more.

For referrence on domestics (non-cubans) "Rudman's Complete Guide to Cigars". Comes out every year or so, usually a little dated by publishing time as things change so quickly in the cigar world. He also has a book on Cubans, but Ron Nee's is so comprehensive that it's kind of overshadowed. Oh and let's not forget "Perelman's Pocket Cyclopedia of Cigars"; although it does suffer the same fate as Perelman's book.

And CA for a mag. But that European Journal sounds mighty interesting. :)

I tended to notice that with CA by just looking on their website. It seems that they are the rich mans magazine by all means.
 
You can order it online from HK (where its printed). Unfortunately the book runs 75-100 and shipping often half that because its huge.

ucmba organized a group buy back at the end of last year. His profile is still on the board; maybe he has some copies left? As I recall, he was able to fulfill some late requests from folks who didn't get in on the group buy.

Failing that, you could maybe contact him for the details of his purchase and organize a group buy of your own with some of the other new guys. Talk about establishing your rep!! :D

As I recall, he was able to offer them for 69.95 with shipping from Chicago. :lookup:
 
I can get it for you from Hong Kong (sorry private website) for $95 shipped to the US. I may be able to have it shipped directly to you. I'd check with ucmba though first, as he had bought enough to get a pretty good discount.
 
ucmba has been out of these for quite a while.

ucmba's first price was $80.00 shipped then when he did another buy it was $115.00 shipped.

Last I knew or heard it is out of print and there are/were no immediate plans to print more copies anytime soon.
 
If anyone has a source where we could do a group buy from I'd certainly be interested. I can't bring myself to pay $50 shipping from cgars for an $80 book... Actually.. I'm sure I could, but I don't want to. ;)
 
You may be able to purchase it from cgarsltd. I bought mine from there. Shipping is a bitch though.

But it is well worth the investment !

As many others have said, this is an invaluable reference tool.
