Fan Timer Question

if you were to need a circulation fan and timer for your cigar cabinet, or igloo, or wine cooler, how many minutes would the fan run? and how long would it stay off? lets say it was non adjustable, so you can only choose one setting.

would it be 5 minutes per hour?

2 minutes every 15 minutes?

something different?

whats your opionion?

Interesting question.

Before I got my big cabinet, truth is I never felt the need for supplemental fans. I had five coolers running and with Heartfelt's beads in them, and they hit 65% with boring regularity. I never felt the need for any additional intervention.

With my big cabinet, it's a vertical (think phone booth) size and I've entertained adding some fans. There are extra fans that run when the pelts come on, and when the humidifier cans turn on. Truth is my smokes consistently smoke fantastic so at this point I will probably try to quit entertaining......

Were I to do it, however, I think five every couple of hours would do the job in spades. YMMV, etc.....

I'm thinking the idea would be to move the actual volume of air that your coolidor has available, that is the actual volume of the unit minus the space taken by cigars and boxes, whenever there's an imbalance in humidity.

So the period would be whenever you can measure what you consider to be a significant difference between two spots, and the duration would be based on the amount of air your fan would move.

Say that you notice the difference in humidity after two hours, your effective volume is one cubic foot, and your fan moves fifty cubic feet per hour, or .83 cubic feet per minute. Then you'd run the fan on every two hours for 1.2 minute and that would even it out.

Marcos

Edited to add: This would be a minimum run time, since we are not considering turbulence and other flow impediments that would be present inside the coolidor.

Ask a simple question and get a ???

Nice answer Marcos.
