Hey all,
new guy to Cigar Pass here... thought I'd say Hi by asking a question!

I'm in the process of designing a humidor that a friend will build for me. It's gonna be great!! (and biiiig...) But, I do have a question. I'd like to have an external hygrometer so I don't always have to open the lid to check on things. But, 1) will any hygrometer work or are they special ones for external installation and 2) does the mounting hole go all the way thru, or should it just be a small hole (or even pinhole?)

I'd like a large, brass one with a temp dial on it as well. Any pointers on this woudl sure be great!

Thanks, and see y'all around here!
Jim

1. Any analog hygrometer that you can afford is likely to be a POS that is highly inaccurate and not to be trusted.

2. Digital hygrometers are much more accurate across a broader humidity range.

3. You can get a wireless digital hygrometer from Radio Shack. The sensor sits in the humidor while the exterior screen unit displays RH and temp. However, Radio Shack is discontinuing these so if you want one, gotta go look quick in your local store.
