To start my cigar-smoking day on Saturday, I fired up an ERDM Choix Supreme. Got this in a trade with davela (thank you very much)...couldn't wait to smoke it.
The cigar was slightly box pressed, with a medium-brown wrapper. There were few veins and the cigar was finished with a very nice 3-flag cap. The pre-light nose was mild, mostly of wood and a hint of coffee. The pre-light draw was medium-firm, though not worrisome. As I lit the cigar, the draw immediately opened a bit, creating a fine smoking cigar. This robusto burned cool and even throughout. Though the smoke was a little thin, there was plent to identify the medium-body tastes. The ash was a little gray and slightly flaky, but overall the construction was right-on.
The taste...now this why we smoke cigars isn't it?? The taste started mild-to-medium...very subtle. A little coffee, a little wood, maybe some sweet spices. However, the tastes were just a little young and were impacted by this with just a hint of harshness. After about 1 inch, however, this all disappeared. At this point, the cigar settled into some nice creamy-coffee flavors touched with just a hint of nuttiness. The cigar had some sweetness at the 1/2 point (caramel???) and then developed some toastiness to compliment the creamy-coffee. These were the flavors that carried it home. Yummmmmyy!
Can't wait until these have about 6 months to a year of age on them. I think they will absolutely blow me away.
