At first glace, it was a pretty little cigar, dark enough to hold promise, but, knowing its reputation for mildness, looked liek a perfect early afternoon cigar for a night that promised to be long and full of smoke. A few small veins gave it character, but not enough to worry.
Xikar took a little snip off the end, and the post clip pre light draw had a touch of resistance, but was by NO means tight. It was actually just how I like a smaller cigar. Tasted like I was expecting, nice, easy tobacco flaor witha hint of sweetness.
At first light off a big Davidoff cigar match, I think I must have scorced the end a bit, becasue the first 5-7 puffs were not to my liking. I was worried...oh no, what a shame, I had been looking forward to this easy little cigar...but by the time I was into the thrid hand of hold 'em...I realized that the cigar had mellowed, the scorched taste was gone, and it was nothing but perfect little moutfuls of sweet, light smoke. Easy-smoking, did not require attention, and was forthright with flavors while being mild and subtle...quite interesting actually. I haven't had many cigars (or many anythings, other than certain wine varietals) that can be both subtle and forthright. THis seeming oxymoron can be analygized to a coy woman...very subtle, but the signals are unmistakable...
I nubbed this little cigar, enjoying every minute of it, breaking my streak of putting small cigars down at the last inch because they get harsh and bitter.
Very tasty, very enjoyable. At 2am, right after winning the 24 person tourney (that's right...hell yeah....), I thought about writing down my impressions of the cigars I had smoked. But I stumbled in the door, and was in a coma thirty seconds later...

Nice review! These cigars are very tasty, kind of fruity. I really like them in the morning. They do always seem to come alive after the 1st 1/2" or so.

Smoked my first this past Sunday evening. This was after I was down in Belmont Shore visiting with my GF's father for his birthday. We had a great time at the Yard House with plenty of good beer. On the drive home I stoped at a cigar shop I used to frequent when my Gf lived in that area, but this time everything was different. Everything was marked up like 30-40% ridiculous prices. They had a VSG for like $29, a 64 for 32, etc... It's about a 15-25 minute drive down PCH back to my house so I needed something. I settled on a AF 858 maduro, which is a solid smoke, but I paid about 5 more dollars than MSRP. Cap the guy lite the guy and I am off. Very ejoyable cigar for the first 8-10 minutes than something happened. The ash turned a yellow color and the flavor went to ****, could have been because the humidor I bought it at was ridiculously hot. I put it out with just over half of it left. I needed something extremely good and quick.

Looking over my goods I found the Choix that I had recently obtained through a box split (thanks again pyre). Ditto on about everything you said smokelaw1, I was actually pretty surprised how fast I smoked it as I usually take my time. What would be a comprable cigar with the same type of blend?

Nice review Smokey! I got some of these in a box split with ParaGod and really like them  .
