DPG JJ Belicoso Maduro - Sept, 08

I've smoked quite a few JJ Maduros but never had a one quite like this.

I originally won and received a box from cbid that was terrible. Tunneling and splotchy wrappers. Clearly ill-kept. This first box was also Sept, 08.

After returning it to CI for a replacement, I received a wonderful box! The wrapper is a chocolate color with a strong spicy/cocoa smell. Perfect burn and draw. The only drawback is the bunching - a bit tight at the tip - but I was able to cut beyond it easily.

The flavor was much like the wrapper smell and grew spicier and less chocolaty as it progressed. Kind of one dimensional but that dimension is one I wouldn't mind staying in for a bit.

I've enjoyed all three front marks in this line; but, these are the best tasting of any I've had so far. I don't know if it was just the year of box age, an unusually good batch of wrapper leaf, or both. Hell of a cigar, though!

I've gone through 2 10-packs and just recently split a box. All were from either CBid or CI and now I feel fortunate that I didn't have that initial experience you did. Glad your replacement box made you a believer!

I love these maduros over their natural counterpart don't ya think?

Yes you are right for the initial experience he had. but I would like suggest you keep on smoking. you will never have a bad experience.

Wow that was subtle. :whistling: Reported.

As to the original post I enjoy the Maduro over the Natural Series JJ but the Natural's are a good smoke too.

Yes, it's amazing what a wrapper can do! The DPG JJ Nats are a very mild flavored cigar. I like them but I like almost any well made cigar.

As to the comment about CCs, very funny. Who hasn't had a plugged one? They have good quality control and are more resistant to drying out than NCs. But you can ruin ANY cigar under the right conditions. Say, 160 degrees for 18 hours?

LMAO! Sneaky bastage. Good catch Bill.

Nice review man.

I actually prefer the JJ naturals. I've gone through about 20-25 of them and just find the combination of spice and cream very satisfying. I've only had the maduros in the Sublime, however, so might enjoy the belicoso more.

Melvin banned and link removed.

Yet another reason not to buy from Solo Cigars.

WOW!At first, I was sitting there just scratching my head saying "1 post and this guy's banned??? Then I read Rod's thread from waaaay back in '06. Suffice to say I really am amazed and appreciative of you guys!
If he wanted to be my friend all he had to do was offer me lollipops in his van :sign:

My wife picked me up a box of jj maddies (selectos) at pepins shop down in miami right when they came out. She asked them what pepin was smoking... jj maddie. Despite the controversial reviews on the smoke, i warmed up to them nicely. A little rest does them justice... but who the hell can let a pepin rest!

Good selection imo!

Another winner from DPG...thanks for the review. Just one more cigar to add to the list of ones to try.

Gimme a JJ anytime, Maddie or Nattie.

I've had most of 'em and all of 'em good.

These are tops on my list...and yes, a little time resting the humi, only makes 'em better.

:D

I keep a few vitolas of the JJ Maddies on hand at all times. I find them to be very smooth and consistant smokes.

The belicoso is certainly one of my favorites. It's DPG....what's not to love :)

You, too! Pepin Hos Unite!! :p

BTW, the tight bunching at the tip was just that first cigar. The other two I smoked were perfect. :)
