What if I could get one for under $70? Still a good deal?

the use of "Dovetail" in the name is misleading. Dovetailed Humidors are VERY uncommon. And none of the ones shown at his website are dovetailed.

I am one of the few Humi Makers with over a decade of experience working with SOLID exotics and building WITH Dovetailed corner joints.

Dovetails will hold together without glue/adhesive! A dovetail is a mechanical joint, that interlocks and cannot be pulled apart without breaking the wood itself!

Nonethless, the Humidors shown look nice.

There is no agrument from me that Coolerdors are the most cost effective way to store cigars, but there is something to be said for "eye candy"

I've built several myself and although his prices are a little high for a desktop, it is not very cost effective to build one-off's. That being said, you can never go wrong with one of Arlin's pieces, those are truly works of art!

Arlin, I've currently finishing up the design of my small cabinet humidor. I didn't see any pictures on your website of dovetails. Mine's going to have a single door with a bookmatched burl panel. I was thinking half blind inlaid dovetails since I love the inlaid dovetail look and I didn't want to take too much away from the burl in the door and make the area too "busy." The rest of the humi will probably end up as some sort of mahogany or maybe even cherry since it's so cheap around here. Can you point me to any pics of your humi's that have dovetails so I can try to confirm my thoughts prior to construction? Someday I'll have the skill to make a full cabinet humi with full blind dovetails...

I do not typically use dovetails on cabinet contruction. Instead I use other 'mechanical joinery' such as mortise and tennon & spline joinery.

My reference to dovetail designs desktops, there were no dovetails......

All my drawers are dovetailed as are even my lift out trays.

Contruction info

With very few exceptions, all my desktops are dovetailed.

Here's an example of a large tabletop with dovetails:

That's the first thing I noticed too :D

ps - I have always LOVED your work Arlin

A few years ago, I had desktop the humidor shown below custom made by a local craftsman where I was living at the time.

Solid mahogany lined with spanish cedar. It's 21.5" long x 12" wide x 7.25" high, all dovetailed joinery. I replaced the foam with beads in the humidifiers and this holds 65% humidity like a champ. The only finish on the wood is car wax, and I've long lost count how many coats. It seals just by the weight of the lid. Great box for my everyday smokes!
