Well guys, let me tell you guys how I got that one...
I recently got myself a newbie sampler from one of out BOTL so the Don Tomás Clasico Robusto Maduro (5 1/2 by 50) was among them... I wasn't sure which one to smoke first but decided to go with this one since it did not have a cello on it. Well to be truly honest its not the only reason, beside the cello the cigar was very shinny, very oily with a deep dark maduro wrapper (yummy) toped with a pretty elegant band.
The pre-light smell of the cigar was sweet, faint but sweet, getting to the foot the smell was accentuated by a more intense chocolate kinda sweet. Went ahead and cut the cap and took a pre-light draw... nothing... It didn't taste like anything... little worried but the draw was smooth.
Light up the little beauty the first 1/5 was very smooth a little salty and the taste was of a dark cedar at this point the smoke was very mild. As I progress well into the 1/5 a subtle golden bitter characteristic of an espresso coffee was noted, faint but present.
At the end of the 1/5 beginning of the 2/5 the espresso note was accentuated grew a but more bitter (not unpleasant, its more of a "golden" bitter) the taste of cedar went away but could still be picked up in the smell of the smoke.
At this point I was strongly reminded of an Oliva V! except it is not a refine, just a tate bit coarser as the Oliva V. The V is somewhat creamier, more silky. Well into the 2/5 it started to really tasting like chocolate with a espresso aftertaste overlap but the cedar smoke, the chocolate wasn't sweet more of a semi sweet dark chocolate.
At the 3/5 of the cigar, I think I found the "Sweet Spot", rich in sweet chocolate still blended with a richer espresso. The 2/5 was a very nice "introduction" to the "Sweet Spot" (3/5)
The ash was pretty good held till the beginning of the 3/5. One thing I noted is that the cigar is VERY oily I can see the oil around the glow. The smoke got more and more intense until well into its 4/5 of the way, the cigar was still enjoyable, same flavor profile just heavier. I let it rest in peace when I almost finished the 4/5 of it.
Verdict... Well it really resemble the Oliva V a hell of a lot... just a younger version a tiny bit not a refined, boy I enjoyed the smoke! And get what I did more research on the Don Tomás Clasico Robusto Maduro... IT IS ONLY ABOUT $2 PER STICK!!!! At this time my friends if you like the Oliva V got get a box or so of the Don Tomás!
