If anyone else has a Don Salvatore Digital Hydrometer, they don't give you directions on how to recalibrate it, but here is what their customer service tells me is the way to do it. I'll try it tonight and post if it doesn't work. Mine is 5.5% off.
Recalibrating instructions:
1. Before calibrating, remove the battery for 40 seconds to
clear the display as this allows the unit to reset itself to
factory settings. Replace the battery and close the
cover.
2. Fill a plastic beverage cap with table salt and add
enough tap water to make the salt into a wet paste-like
consistency.
3. Place in (2) re-sealable sandwich bags on a flat surface and
place the salt-filled cap inside, along with your
hygrometer. Seal the bags closed tightly and wait 24-48
hours. It is important to make sure the sandwich bags
do not have any holes and is completely sealed so that
the moisture does not escape.
4. After 24-48 hours, push and hold down the button on the
FH-1539 Digital Hygrometer while it is still sealed in
the sandwich bags for 24 seconds, or until the unit resets
itself to 75% in the gradation bar display.
5. Once reset, remove the hygrometer from the sandwich
bag. It is now accurately calibrated.
