Had a great day off. I went Small Mouth Bass fishing wading in the Rapidan River down the road from my house. I caught a few nice ones and best of all, I got some time to unwind by myself. I came home to find my dad had dropped by and everyone on the back deck. I decided it was a great time to try something new........................
Here are the stats on this Don Pepin creation:
Size: 5 1/2 x 38
Shape: Long Panatela
Wrapper: Nicaragua
Filler: Nicaragua
Binder:Nicaragua
Msrp: $5.50
This cigar has a beautiful silky smooth chocolate wrapper with minimal veining to it finished with a pigtail cap.. Not a blemish can be found on the cigar at all. The roll is semi- firm and, I expect the draw to be perfect.
After quick snip with the Xikar and a good test draw, I set fire to this specimen. From the first draw I was rewarded with spicy in your face tobacco smoke. The flavor profile was something I could not quite grasp other than smoked woody flavor. I'm here to tell you that I liked it though. The burn was spot on with one of the whitest ashes I have seen in some time. Quite firm also.
It may have been the excellent day and the good company heightening the experience but, this cigar was EXCELLENT! The second half evolved a bit with it retaining it's spicy smooth profile. The ash changed to a salt and pepper look and the flavor took on just a hint of sweetness.
I nubbed this sucker and would have kept going if like my dad said.... "You need a roach clip, if I didn't know better I'd think you were smoking something else."
Overall impression of this cigar was that it is excellent. I will write these down as a go to. Plenty of spice and flavor in such a small package. I had not tried the black line yet due to the mixed reviews. Goes to show that you always need to see for yourself. Thanks to Brad for turning me on to another favorite.
