I will make this short since I did not smoke it for very long. That should say something right there.

Wrapper was med dark brown, a few veins, decent cap flat finish (not real oily)

Looks to be slightly longer than a traditional robusto.

Decent flat cap.

Cut the cigar and took a draw without lighting. It was like sucking through an empty toilet paper (the cardboard part) roll.....no resistance whatsoever. To me this meant loosely packed although it did not feel like that to the touch. I also thought I had better smoke it as slow as possible since it would likely burn hot.

I was right, fast hot burn, but even.

I bought a couple of them last night at the B&M, not exactly cheap either. I thought they were about $6.00. Smoked it driving around in the car today.

Flat flavor, basically no depth and no complexity. Some decent tobacco notes with a short finish and pepper was noted. It really was hard to try and taste anything as the heat from the burn was I think killing most of what was there (if anything was there in the first place).

I really could not smoke it past the 2nd 3rd and pitched it with somewhat less than 1/2 left to go. Left a pretty nasty aftetaste too. I think it was underfilled.

Oh well, live and learn, that what this is all about for me. Maybe the second one will be better, I am going to wait a while before tackling that again though.

Not my kinda smoke for sure.

White Band? JJ Series?

I had the Beli size last week and had none of the problems you did, excellent draw and lots of flavor.

Don't give up on them yet, it sounds like you received a bum cigar.

Haven't tried any Don Pepin yet but from what I have heard this review is surprising. Have you tried others in the line and found them to be better?

Please describe the band better or take a pic and post it if you can. There are so many DP cigars out there now that it gets confusing. Thanks

From the description, I'm pretty sure golfgar is referring to the blue label robusto. I love these sticks; very rich, full-bodied flavor at an affordable price. However, I had one last week for the first time that wasn't what I've grown accustomed to; it was missing that rich, deep flavor. I think it may very well be that it was over-humidified. I could tell before I smoked it that it was springy and probably had been stored in the low 70's (humidity). These sticks, based on my experience, are MUCH better around 65% (and from what I've read, this is due to the wrapper).

That is why I bought it and that is why I posted. Macht keine uberaschungen!

I am not accustomed to posting reviews. I have some photos to take, but the band was indeed blue. I have one left so I will post photos in the next couple of days.

Yep, 60%-65% works best for me.

I had a similar taste experince with the blue label torpedo. It was one dimensional with hardly any flavor. Maybe needs more time in the humi? It was in my humidor for a week at 65%.

Oh yeah, the Don Pepin Garcia Blue Label Robusto... come to papa! Great smoke for the money. Anyone complaining about this not having any flavor I would think is either the case of getting a bad cigar or most likely, over humidified stick. One thing that I've found in all of the DPG Blue Labels that I've smoked (particularly the robusto and torpedo) is rich, flavorful, full bodied smoke.

I have smoked enough cigars to know when a cigar is over or under humidified and this most certainly was not. It was likely an underfilled stick. Still, I am not convinced that the next one will taste any better. You know how long first impressions last........

No, this was the first shot for this brand for me and probably the last.

To me, the flavor of the ones that I have had closely resembled the Tatuaje Regios. Just not as strong but the finish flavor lasted just as long. Both seemed to have a somewhat bitter "ashey" taste.

I gotcha golfgar, pehaps you just got a bad cigar. Also, the Don Pepin Garcia BL may very well not be your cup of tea. I was just suprised to read a review or comments regarding this stick not having much flavor. That's one thing I believe this stick has a good bit of (whether you like the flavor or not is a different story). At any rate, it will be interesting to hear if your second experience is any better.

Okay, I was at the local B&M last week watching a baseball game.......Did I mention the Cards WON.......and they had some Pepin cigars, same blue label, so I bought a belicoso and smoked it over the weekend. It seemed like an entirely different cigar from the robusto. Great burn, well constructed, and some pretty good flavors. Much more character than the robusto. I would smoke another one. While the robusto registered a POS on the scale, the beli was more like a B+.
