Don Pepin Garcia My Father No. 1
Size: 5.5 x 52 Robusto
Wrapper: Habano-Rosado Nicaraguan
Binder: Nicaraguan
Filler: Nicaraguan
Strength: Medium to Full
This is my first official review, so I hope you guys enjoy it. I've always like DPG's blends and this stick is no different from the rest as it doesn't disappoint. The wrapper is beautiful and has a nice tooth to it, with only 1 prominent vein running the length of the stick. The caps on DPG cigars are probably the finest that I have seen thus far in my cigar smoking odyssey. I clipped the cigar with my Xi3 and it yielded a perfect cut once again.
The beginning of this cigar had me looking for the billowing clouds of white smoke seeing as the draw was a bit tight. At about the 1/2 way point is when it really opened up and rewarded my vigilance. With earthy base notes I detected also a small hint of leather, a mildly spicy almost sweet aroma was prevalent throughout the smoke. Intermingling cocoa flavors had me finding it hard to put the stick down, and with coffee bean flavors coming through once in a while I found the cap growing wetter with each draw. The finish is lengthy but not overpowering and the aftertaste becomes increasingly peppery as you work your way past where the band used to reside.
The body of this cigar is a solid medium, maybe leaning towards full, but then my palette is more accustomed to full body cigars. It finishes with an earthy flavor, a long peppery finish and brown sugar on the nose that had me smacking my lips between puffs. As the nub continued to give enjoyment I began to reminisce about the stick I just enjoyed and realized that it only took me about a half an hour to master this work of art from DPG. Normally I take at least an hour with my smokes. Remembering how hard it was to put this cigar down was the answer to my quick smoke and the nicotine punch was quite nice as I enjoyed this after delighting in 2 Guinness Stouts on an empty stomach...I began to have thoughts of grandeur.
Thank you guys for listening to my ramblings, and Happy St. Patrick's Day!
