I finally got around to trying another smoke I picked up at the IPCPR show in Vegas last month and I was not dissapointed.
Taken from the manufacturer's advertisement: The crown jewel of the factory, Don Leoncio Gran Reserva is a richly-layered blend that resonates with notes of chocolate and toffee. It is full-bodied and strong but leaves the palate with a refreshing and clean aftertaste. The dark maduro wrapper underscores the smooth and toasty notes the cigar delivers. The torcedor uses only Grade A tabacco leaves in the final product. Don Leoncio Gran Reserva is for the cigar aficionado and promises a satisfying experience.
As you can see in the pictures below, I smoked the Robusto (4.75 x 50).
Wrapper - Habano Oscuro
Binder - Habano
Filler - Dominican/Nicaraguan
Just like the Pinar Del Rio Oscuro, this smoke is going right into my collection of everyday cigars. As for construction, it held up my stlye of smoking and provided strong plumes of creamy smoke. While I did not need to retouch the cigar, it did develop a slightly uneven burn. However, the uneven burn did not raise any issues of alarm as any handmade cigar will likely have some alteration in burn pattern. It was certainly nothing I would consider as a negative mark against the cigar. I must say that the description from the manufacturer is exactly what I experienced; toasty notes of chocolate and toffee. With most new cigars I usually detect a tanic and often times poor tasting bite that stays with me at the finish. Not so with this cigar. It is on the stronger side, somewhat comparable to the J21.
In addition to the Robusto, it comes in the following sizes: Toro (6 x54), Torpedo (6 x 52), Diplomatico (5 x 60), and Elegante (7 x 54).

I'm definitely ordering this product for my shop. Based on my conversations with Al at the trade show, I suspect he already has some in stock. Give him a call if you are looking to try this smoke.
