As I was going through my liquor cabinet to make Tom's Scotch Punch, I found this buried in the back. I got this bottle from my parents bar at their house long, long ago...maybe 25 years ago, and it was old then. I looked it up on the Internet and only found one picture of this shape bottle. I found this website that gives hints of trying to date older bottles of liquor.

1) The glass bottle imprint date seems to be '66.

2) It's volume is in US measurement, not metric...it's stated as 4/5 Quart...which supposedly denotes pre '70s

3) It has an US Internal Revenue number sticker that denotes pre-1985

I don't think it's worth anything, just thought it was interesting that I still had this thing way in the back of my liquor cabinet for so long.

Anyone have a clue?

The US switched to the metric system for hard alcohol in May of 1980 so it is at least that old and Schenley as a company was bought out by UD in 1987 except for the Canadian branch which is still producing. The 66 marking may not be the year bottled but the year the bottle was registered so it could have been in use for years. So it is between 66-79 and I'd lean toward the older end.

As a blend it doesn't have the value it would if it was a bourbon and unless it has been opened previously that amount of evaporation doesn't bode well.  Let us know what you think when you try it.
