My Mate and I had reservations for a fantastic dinner last night. Before leaving, I sat down with a DCM Robusto No.5 and a drink to let the stresses of the day drain away.
This cigar is beautiful. I think the wrapper color (not the shade, but the actual hue) is fairly unique. Dark chocolate with a hint of gray/black thrown in. The appearance was flawless, no major veins and very clean seams. The pre-light nose was of earth with a touch of molasses sweetness to it. The pre-light draw was open and easy, just right for me. Great looking cigar.
I lit'er up and she burned easy and even. Fact is, this is one of the straightest burning cigars that I think I have ever smoked. There was not even the consideration of a touch-up needed here. The draw remained very open, with the cigar practically smoking itself. Honestly, only the slightest puff was required to bring forth thick billows of rich, aromatic smoke. The cigar burned a little warm, but this was primarily due to the draw and was easily managed. The ash was very white and firm, staying on an inch or more at a time. Absolute top-notch construction on this cigar.
Ahhh, now we are to the taste. The cigar immediately developed a profile of earch and coffee with wonderful sweet undertones. This profile dominated until the 1/3 mark when the cocoa kicked in. The initial sweetness was the raw stickiness that comes with molasses. It was muted, though, and in no way overpowered the other flavors. The cocoa (and I think this is one of the most cocoa laden cigars on the market) was raw and flavorful. It mixed with the earth and coffee to literally dance a tango across the taste buds. At the 2/3 mark, the earth faded and was replaced to some measure by cedar. The coffee/cocoa/cedar remained until the end (which, at this time, was a very small nub). Wonderful tasting cigar.
I do truly love these cigars. I put them right next to a PAN/PAM, VSG, or Opus. Whoever blended this cigar really hit the mark for me. Though I think I am nit-picking, I give this cigar an
