Sorry I don't have pics with this guys but the wife snagged my digital camera and is off somewhere with it in her baby bag.
After taking a few days off I figured it was a great time to try one of these out. Having heard a lot about the diamond crown maximus line I had pretty high expectations for this cigar, especially given the price.
Pre-light Draw/Construction: Nothing much to say about construction other than that it was spot on. This is no surprise for me given me experiences with Fuente products in general. The pre-light draw had a very strong, rich tobacco flavor. I knew immediately this was going to be a powerful smoke.
Light: The initial light was a little bit rocky but things evened out pretty quick. I had to do a little touching up early on in the cigar to keep it from canoing but with a little patience and effort things were fine after about the first 1/2 inch.
First third: Nothing too exciting going on here. It was strong but there wasn't anything special or unique about the flavor yet. I know enough to not judge early so I just eased through the early stages of the cigar without getting too critical.
Second third: Here is where the cigar really picked up. The change-up in the 2nd third was very dramatic. As I am still fairly new to cigars I don't detect all the flavor nuances some more advanced reviewers tend to. In this case, however, I definitely picked up strong espresso flavors. What was most striking was the creaminess of the cigar. I have only had a few cigars in the past I would call 'creamy' but the feel of the smoke in my mouth combined with the smooth espresso flavor immediately brought this word into my mind. I was really happy the flavor stuck until the last third or so.
Finish: Towards the end of the cigar the creaminess faded away and was replaced by what I can only refer to as a zesty woodiness. It was not cedary at all nor grassy but still very light. I smoked it down to the nub without much more change and it never got too hot or unpleasant.
Summary: Overall I thought this was a very good cigar. It definitely eased into its flavor but it was worth waiting for. As I said above, what was most striking was the creaminess of the middle third of the cigar. I would smoke one of these again but probably only on rare occasion, as given the price there are other cigars I find better suited to my tastes
