Desktop humidor problem

A friend of mine gave me a nice desktop humidor a while back that ive been having a hell of a time holding anywhere near 70% RH. With the credo(just a small circle one with the standard oasis foam in place using a 50/50 mix of glycol/distilled water) in place it jumps up to 85% RH overnight. The credo is slightly damp, but nowhere near soaked. When you take it out, it will hold 65-68 for a day or so and then drops to the high 50's after that and holds steady there. It is in a temperature controlled room at exactly 71 degrees and have tried everything from 67 up to 73 degrees. Ive duplicated these results no matter if its empty, half or completly full to within +/- 2& RH. I though maybe it was the hyrgo giving false readings, but have tried 3 different ones, all of which have been verified with the salt test.

Any idears on how to get this sucker to stay stabilized?

Beads.

Almost any problem with humidors can be fixed with beads. Visit Vippers site. Link

He can help you out.

Can you tell I really love beads? :)

I second the beads. I had some problems also and got some beads, and now I hold a constant 65%.

beads, beads the magical...the beads from heartfelt are the best...bar none. they have straighted out my RH problem in my humi. and viper is a quick shipper!

skip the beads too much work.

If it is a big desktop use a cigar oasis with a short height refill. I have ont in mine and it is perfect.

Otherwise, humidi or boveda packs work great in a desktop with very precise humidity.

Too much work?
Prime the beads, Put the beads in the humi. When they start to turn white put a damp spong on top of them for a day or two. Easy!!!

For some, that maybe waayyyyy to much work.

Another bead fan here, they are no work at all I think NG hits the crack pipe in his off time.

I had serious issues when I first set up my desktop humi as well but beads and some paitience straightened it right out. Buy some beads and put them in your humi, fill the humi about 3/4 or more with smokes, close it and leave it for a couple days. As the normal cycle of moisture exchange between cigars, cedar, and beads takes place your humidity will jump around a bit but hang in there, and try not to open it every 15 minutes.
