Dehumidifying

Hello everyone

By my lack of experience, I have up until the last few weeks, keeping my Humidors at 75% Not over, not under. Dead on 75%...

I have been educated lately that this is not ideal, and I should switch from my premixed jars to 65% beads, which I am currently doing.

My question is which is the preferred method? To slowly creep down the humidity? (I am currently at 72% after not refilling my jars since....) or to open the lid, and dry them out quickly?

I have tried to research this before posting, and i find arguments both ways... some think that drying them off might ruin the cigars wrap after being over humid so i want to go slow and steady, and some say the longer they remain high the great the risk to the cigars health.

I would appreciate any thoughts or comments. (Besides calling me an idiot) :-D

Much thanks

Curious who provided this "education." Did you not enjoy the way the cigars were smoking at 75% or do you enjoy 65% more?

Either way, I'd just throw the 65%in there and let the beads do their job slowly.

Yes! Bring the humidity down slowly or else the wrappers are apt to do things you don't want them to do.

Doc.

Everything about cigars and pipes is better done slowly and gently.

Patience, my friend, patience. ;)

Most people will say anything from 58% - 72% is fine to keep cigars at. I know a lot of the best smoke shops in England age at 58%. Really anything in those ranges is up to your preference. Some people like a dryer smoke some like it moist. You need to find what is good for you. However, in the case of bringing humidity down, do it slow like Doc and Vortex stated. Just like when you smoke a great stick, you don't want to rush it.
