De La Hoya vs. Mayweather

If not, I do not know what is.

Boxing just doesn't have the personalities it used to. I miss it.

Some of my fondest memories are of watching Lenard - Hearns and Lenard - Duran.

Definitely the "money" fight of the decade. When have we ever seen a reality weekly TV show build up to any fight
as HBO have done promoting this one. I wouldn't be surprised if De La Hoya makes in excess of 50M, he is
one shrewd business man, not called Golden Boy for nothing.

He was on Leno a day or two ago and I think Leno was pushing him about how much he will be getting for this fight and he agreed that it is close to $40M.

I've been watching the reality TV show and if anything it makes me want to watch the fight even more. Great marketing/advertising idea they had!

Man, I would absolutley love to see this fight, but 55 bucks is a big price to pay and unfortunately it doesn't look like I have another option than to watch it from home as the one "sort of" sports bar in my town will unlikely carry the game. HEY WYATT - YOU IN? Oh, and don't worry, I'll make sure while I enjoy Coronas, there is an ample supply of can beers for ya'. :p
 
I was just talking about this in the chat yesterday. I hope De La Hoya kills Mayweather. Mayweather has been talking all kinds of crap lately especially about how UFC fighters suck. I’m taking De La Hoya, it’s his natural weight class, and he’s bigger, stronger and probably just as fast. Mayweather had to come up two weight classes; I bet it’ll slow him down a lot.

Personally, I've always been a De La Hoya fan. He's a classic boxer and I think he will simply out box Mayweather, Jr. I don't think it's going to be a brawler, and will, to a some degree anyway, come down to tactical maneuvers and strategy. De La Hoya is very much equipped to deliver that in spades. But, added to that, he's got an incredible left hook, lightning fast jabs and, as stated, he's just a better boxer. Mayweather, Jr. is just a loud-mouthed, bitchy punk, just like Vargas, and we all (at least some of us) saw what became of Vargas against De La Hoya. Mayweather, Jr. just won't have what it takes, certainly in the strength of his hits. He couldn't muster a clobber against Judah, nor Baldomir. He just jib-jabbed his way around. And Mayweather Jr's move in weight class is not something he will be used to, nor I think will he be able to adequately handle. De La Hoya has been there and done that in the differing weight class bouts, and he's comfortable with it. And De La Hoya is one who not ony can clobber, but can take a beating and keep going as well. However, I don't think he's going to have to worry about a "beating" from the hands of Mayweather, Jr.

Even though De La Hoya has some time out of the ring, since his last fight anyway, I don't think he's slowed down or softened up one bit.

It'll be a damn good fight. I do think it's getting hyped way too much, but it still is going to be one for the ages nonetheless.

I still box. Heavyweight now, for quite some time. But, over the many, many years I've boxed, as I grew, have been in Cruiser, Light Heavy, Super Middle, Middle, etc.

And yep, it's going to be a great fight. Looking forward to it. :thumbs:

X2. It should be a good fight. A lot of what I've heard is that De La Hoya is too old, but he's only 34 and Mayweather is what, 30? I'm pulling for De La Hoya.
