DC-MD-VA-WV Area

I don't see any place really causing too much of an issue for me except Baltimore. If you guys head up to Baltimore is there any way I could get a ride with someone from Cville? If there was one in WV somewhere I could probably make it too with some decent directions. TIA guys this sounds great.

As soon as Steve sets up his schedule and we set a date and time to meet in Martinsburg I'll let you know.

By the sound of it looks like two events: one in WV on a weekday, and one somewhere else on the weekend.

How does DC work for the weekend guys? AVB, is that too far?

Downtown DC is 90 miles and while that isn't too far to get to, the problem would be getting back as Shelley's has a pretty good Scotch selection :)

James, if there is something in Baltimore, you are welcome to hitch a ride with me. For that matter, we could carpool for something in DC as well. I'll check with jingles and LC and see what they are up for.

LMK when the Martinsburg herf is scheduled. I should be able to break away for one day...even a weekday. As for the weekend, no problems here. I usually don't have too much scheduled and the work on the smoking room will be done (current weekend drain).

Looking forward to it.

OK I just called, and they do allow cigar smoking. Had to check, you can't be too careful.

However, this was the place I was talking about:

http://www.frederickbrewing.com/

they make blue ridge beers, which are quite good.

Ok here is the email I got from Heather at the frederick brewing company (the brewery in the link, not the brewpub surfer mentioned):

Hello Jonathan!

You will be happy to hear that we do allow cigar smoking in the
facility.
However, the only time we can allow you to do this is on Saturdays
after
brewery tours. If you would like to come in on a Saturday at 1:30,
take a
tour of the brewery, and stay for beer tasting and cigar smoking in our
tap
room that would be just fine. We have fifteen beers on tap with tables
and
chairs for you to relax in a bar type setting.

If you have a large group please let us know ahead of time. The tour
is
free of charge and lasts only a few hours (that is including tour time
plus
beer tasting time). It is a good time to be had by all.

Hope to see you soon!
Cheers!

Newb looking to join in.

Shelly's looks pretty cool and easy to get to.

Metro would be the way to go. Parking is free on weekends at the stations.

Weekend would be the way to go for me. TOOO much traffic and comuting for me during the week.

:( Bummer. My wife and I are leaving for the Bahamas on the 19th and don't come back until the 26th. Hope yoy guys have a good time - I'm pissed I'm going to miss this...

That does suck that you will be missing this, but really how upset can ya be if in its stead you are headed to the bahamas.

Sounds great, I will definately need a ride if it is anywhere in that direction (DC, Baltimore, MD). I can be a DD if need be as well for my contribution to the carpool.

As far as something in Martinsburg on a week day I should be free for it as long as its not a tuesday or a thursday before 8pm.

I would guess late afternoon/early evening. You gonna make the 6 hour drive? It would be good to see you there! :D

How did you know it was six hours? Did you map quest it or something? :p

Well, my girlfriend and I were planning on being up in Maryland that weekend anyway. As of right now we should be able to attend. I'll most likely drag my buddy and his wife along. He just quit smoking cigarette's six months ago and I've recently just started to get him into cigars.

If this works out this will be the first time I've gotten to Herf with anybody from CP. There alot of people from NC on here but, none close to me. :(

I spent 5 years at Ft Bragg. On long weekends, I'd make the trip back home to the D.C. area. On short weekends, my buddies and I would travel to Wrightsville Beach -- my girlfriend's mom owned a hotel there. Ah, the good ol' days! :D

I'm right down road from Camp Lejuene. The closet beach to me is Emerald Isle (I can leave my house and be in the water surfing in less ten minutes :p) I use to go to Wrightsville Beach alot to surf with friends that lived in Wilmington. The area grown so much though, you couldn't pay me to surf there now. My friends tell me that there is sometimes two hundred head out in water and that's when the surf is just average. Plus the traffic down there is just horrible. If you ex-girlfriend's mom still owns that hotel she's sitting on a gold mine. Property in New Hanover county has gone up like two hundred percent in the last ten years.

It looks like Shelly's will be the spot. Probably on Saturday, the 19th, if that works for most. Anytime in the afternoon is good for me.

Looks like I will be able to attend as well. This may be a dumb question but I can get into Shelly's to herf with you guys even though Im under 21 right?

Thanks

Hello all,

I really would like to participate in this, and get to meet some of you good folks. I really liked the idea of the BREWERY tour, partly because I'm just getting into homebrewing; that, & Frederick is about 50 minutes from my mountain, and DC is another hour down the road. :(

So early in the thread there was a discussion about one or two HERFS, is it decided that Shelly's is the place and one is the number? If so, I may have to make the trek. If two is the number I'd certainly be up for a Frederick Brewery meet as well.

Actually the number is two, one is during the week in WV, and one is on the weekend in the DC area.

I threw the brewery idea out there, but it seems people preferred Shelleys. That's fine with me

Now if we really want to make things complicated we could schedule the meetup at Shelley's late enough in the afternoon/early evening so that if anyone chooses to do the brewery tour, they could do both.

That'd be fine by me, too.
