Davidoff 3000
Size: 7" x 33 rg Lancero
Wrapper: Connecticut Shade
Binder: Dominican
Filler: Dominican
Strength: Mild

I came across these cigars at a local shop, and was rather surprised when on picking one up I found the band to have a slight tinge of yellow to it, unlike the other Davidoffs nearby which all had stark white bands. The cellophane also was starting to show a bit of yellowing on the end, but when held up to the light there was no yellowing to the majority of the cellophane save for the folded end. I suspected these had a few years of age on them, and on asking the gentleman working he stated that they had been there since before the change of ownership, which was a few years ago. Whether this is in fact true or not, I still believed that there is at least two or more years of age on these, and so I bought three to take home.

Pre-Light

Construction is perfect save for a slightly rough cap, while the foot was extremely well bunched. The wrapper was a light, golden brown with no oils I could discern, and was very supple to the touch. The scent on the wrapper was a light, sweet tobacco. Visual inspection gives me high hopes that the draw will be ok, and construction of Davidoffs is usually superb, though I have never had a lancero of theirs.

Burn and Draw

On punching the cap I found the draw to be spot on with slight resistance, providing for huge clouds of aromatic, sweet smoke. The burn was spot on, never needing correction, and the wavy medium gray ash held strong until let go every inch or so.

Flavor Profile

The prelight draw carried on it a very mild, musty tobacco that was another indicator that these do have some age. Once lit, the flavors were mild, silky smooth, and perfectly complex. The first half carried tastes of sweet tobacco, baked bread, a good earthiness. There was absolutely zero spice both in nose and mouth, which was pairing absolutely perfect with my cup of breakfast blend coffee. The second half was a mellow, buttery smooth mix of flavors that included not only the previous flavors, but also cashew and a very subtle citrus zest to it that was fleeting, but would reappear every few minutes. Sublime!

Overall Impression

This cigar was fantastic with a cup of coffee, and I could see myself smoking these regularly in the morning. While I normally prefer full bodied, powerfully flavored smokes, this was a wonderful change of pace. I will certainly be getting more of these, and perhaps even a box is in the cards. Delicious, simply delicious.

Nice review, and excellent pics! Looks and sounds like a rather tasty smoke.

I've only had a couple but when I can afford it this is one of my favorite's.

Awesome Charles! You mentioned no spice at all, which in my mind says it definitely had some age as most of the NC Davidoffs I've smoked have had a nice kick to them, although I don't recall having smoked a lancero. I've got a robusto tubed that has some serious age on it that I keep meaning to put fire to, interested to see if it too is mellow. Excellent review and pics!

I remember the one I smoked in Moki's blind taste test having a little zing to it and being surprised when I found out it was a Davidoff.

Ahhh I just went to that thread looking as it seems I remembered we smoked a lancero and couldn't recall what it was. Sure nuff, smoked one! Really good cigar too! :D

Nice review Charles. I wish it wasn't so damn cold here right now. I have a few lanceros that I've been wanting to review but I don't feel like braving the 30 degree weather... Damn winter!!! Nice find!
