As Promised

Danli Reserve Toro 6" x 50 RG

I had no idea what I was getting when I bought this cigar, but the price seemed right so I went with it.

I got a 5 pack from cigarbid and let them rest out of the cellophane for 3 weeks before I brought one out.

Upon initial inspection, I noticed what a tight roll this was, VERY firm, but to my surprise, NO stretching of the wrapper. It had a nice dark leather look to it with a pronounced oily sheen, much like a well worn and maintained ball glove. There were veins present, but very subdued. The cap was well placed and centered.

Using a punch, I did my pre-light draw. Very earthy. The draw was easy and clean with no extra effort to get the air to pass through.

I lit the very edges of the foot using a wooden kitchen match (no wind today) rotating the cigar to ensure an even burn. The initial aroma was very earthy almost sweet, reminded me of farm country, just not as overpowering. Toasting the foot fully enhanced the aroma and once it settled I pulled my 1st draw.

Initial draw produced a tasty pepper flavor with undertones of earth and spice. The smoke coming off of the foot was minimal, but my mouth was filled with just one draw. Being a nearly windless day, the pure white smoke hung over me and settled as if heavier than the air.

I blew out the cigar to clear it, and the next draw was more flavor filled than the first. Again with pepper taking the forefront, followed by earth and spice. These flavors continued to about 1.75 inches into it.

The ash was now forming into a nice deep whitish gray with incredibly close together lines, and the edge was very straight. So far so good.

At this point, I had a phone call and had to go inside. The call lasted longer than I would have liked (about 20 minutes) and when I got back to the gar, to my surprise, it picked right back up where I left off within three pulls. No re-lighting required.

There was now a new flavor that I was not expecting. The scent of saddle leather took the place of the earthiness and washed over my pallette. Coupled with the spice and pepper it was delicious. I knocked off the ash with effort at this point. It was solid enough that it took me rotating it and tapping four to five times before it fell.

The taste of leather carried through the entire smoke from this point on. Pepper and spice traded off behind the leather in a pleasant manner. The cigar developed no hot spots throughout and the smoke remained cool to the nub. The burn line remained straight and required no corrections.

I began this cigar with out extremely high expectations as I had not heard of it being praised before, but as long as they all remain like this one was, I will continue to buy and smoke them. Almost forgot, the humidity of the humi was at 68% when I pulled the gar out (analog with a salt test performed aprox 1 week ago) and since I have had it holding that reading, all of my cigars have burned well like this one.

Would I buy again? A resounding YES.
Would I recommend them for you guys? I don't know that may make the price jump up LOL.

Overall ...damn good cigar, damn good price.

I should add that this was the third out of five that I have had out out of the five pack. It is just the only one that I took the time to sit down and review. The other two were exactly the same, I just didn't take the time to look for and pick up on any of the nuances that the cigar offered.

Prior to this, the extent of my reviews were:
1. Sucks, would not buy again.
2. Doesn't suck, buy maybe a five pack every once in a while.
3. Its good, I'll buy a box.
The Danli Reserve falls into the #3 category :).
