Danger of Silica/Humidity Beads

I've read on some different websites that it is harmful to inhale silica powder, which inevitably flakes of the humidity beads, and that inhaling silica powder can cause silicosis. What do you all think? Anything to worry about for those of us who uses the humidity beads? I've got a smaller desktop humidor and my cigars are in close proximity to the beads.

I highly doubt it unless you work with the stuff on a regular basis... like at the factory or something... I'm no expert but it seems highly unlikely. Its usually mass quantities that you should be worried about in situations like these.

You smoke cigars and you're worried about silica beads in your humidor? ??? :sign: I would not worry about it too much myself.......

Also, it's suggested that you do a little intro here

At least he asked the question in the right forum.

Unless you grind 'em up and snort 'em, it seems pretty low risk to me....... :whistling:

Well I think I'm going to stick with the beads...but if I get silicosis I'll let you all know, ha.

I live in the LA area, the air is a "natural wrapper" brown all summer. I'm worried about a little silica getting into my smokes........NOT!!!!!

I think you will live, but thats just this guys opinion.

Try going here Intro, tell the nice people about yourself

For cryin' out loud, don't take the risk. Please immediately send me those nasty silicosis inducing beads and carcinogenic puros....I'll be happy to provide environmentally sound storage and destruction for all items.....

LOL

Wow I had to look that one up... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silicosis :0

And MSun... smoke the cigars and not the beads and you'll be fine ;)

I use a mask when I spread the silica sand on my paver stone patio as I was instructed by the patio builder. Of course I am standing in a cloud of silica dust at the time.

Just as marriage is the leading cause of divorce, life causes every desease known to man......what's a little silicosis?

I just ordered a pound of beads from viper, if he ships them to me is that attempted murder ???
