While digging for a smoke today I came across one of my two Sand Sharks from last Christmas. I hope to hell whatever contamination of mold the 06 Anejos had has been contained. Friggin white fuzzies on the wrapper and foot. I had hoped to let these sit a bit longer, but with mold on the foot, there was no chance of that happening.

This was a really nice cigar. It was my first shark, of either wrapper. I've smoked plenty of Anejos, but prefer smaller ring guages and just haven't put the flame to one of these big boys before today. It was pretty dam good. The cammie wrapper had an interesting affect on the Anejo binder and filler. That distinctive Anejo body was there, but was mellowed a touch by the sweetness of the wrapper.

I was quite pleased with this cigar. One of these days, I'll have to smoke one of my regular sharks and compare. As for the other one, hopefully the mold will hold off and let it get a bit older.

I'm sorry Matt. A lot of people reported mold on the sand sharks from Holt's. I hope Fuente fixes this soon.

Just to let you know... My first Sand Shark got mold on the foot and I cut it off with my cutter. The foot is so big I actually had to cut each corner separately and then cut the center. That's why a good cutter like my Kikar is a good thing. :D I've kept it in my humi since then and not had a problem. I also had a couple of my 06 Sharks get mold on em and wiped em off. No problems since then. I think the mold had already started to sprout before they were bought, but they sell so quick you couldn't tell. Or maybe it was the shipping or humidification change between storage. Either way, they were serious problems with alot of the 06 Fuente stuff (also had a Hemingway Maduro and an Anejo 48 that got mold). Once you take care of the initial outbreak you shouldn't have a problem.

Also, the Sharks have a different flavor from the other sticks. Not drastic, but more smooth, almost like candy. I love Anejos, but I horde my Sharks. Mike, if you read this, know that my trading you a Shark says alot.

MMMMMMMM, Sharks!!!!

Good luck with the mold Matt.

I have been lucky so far with respect to the mold. I also picked up two of these sand sharks last year, and neither has developed any mold. I check regularly. I did have a couple anejo develop mold, so I took them out of their cello and cedar wrap and wipped them down. The mold has not returned. I also made the switch to 65% beads, which I think helped alot. Hopefully this was a one time problem; although, I understand it is ongoing for some.
