Cutting Torpedos

I just had one great smoke, a Pam 64 torpedo. I don't smoke many torps and was wondering how everyone cuts theirs.

I remember reading that cutting it on an angle was the way to go. I tried this today and noticed a difference from the Exclusivo's that I have been smoking... not that the Exclusivo's were anything but great, but having the cut angled downward toward the tongue provided a larger range of tastes.

Hmmm... I usually just lop the tip off and puff away. I'll try it on an angle this evening and see if it makes a difference. As I've said before, I learn something new here all the time.

I'm too uncoordinated to cut torpedos at an angle :D but then again, I hardly ever smoke 'dem pointy ceegars so.........

Okay, in the interest of science ;) I tried an angle cut last night.

The angle cut was not as clean as my straight cuts (some damage occurred) but that could have been operator error. I didn't notice much difference in ease of draw or quantity of smoke. I did notice that I did not have to re-cut it later in the smoke, like I sometimes have to do with a torp.

Going forward, I'll probably go with an angle cut. I'm guessing a little practice will take care of the slight damage -- plus I'll try to pick up a sharper guillotine cutter. :p

Usually cut straight. but i do like the fact with torps i can choose how much smoke i want. that reminds me had an monte #2 the other night talk about haveing to cut off alot of cigar.

Angled cut? I have never heard of that before. I will have to try it.

I wonder how you got a different tasting experience with just a cut?

IIRC it's called the Dick cut, or something thereabouts. It helps to increase the gauge of the cut end, and also supposedly helps direct smoke either down onto you tongue, or up against your palate. Similar to the now famous chisel from LFD. Never tried it myself tho :whistling:

Angle cut is the way to go, IMHO. Astheticly better and makes for a better draw on torps and beli's. I would change the oval cut from facing down as the illustration shows to facing up. Seems to hit the palate better. Treamayne posted on this somewhere and I found his advice good.

Also I find it better to cut from the foot toward the point with the cutter. Seems to have less problems with damaging the cap that way. Cutting from the other way can bunch up sometimes.

Either way, happy smokes.
