Good luck with your business, it's always good to have choices.

Have you given any thought to designing a humidor specifically for placement in a wine cellar? Most decent to high end modular racking systems are standard at 13" (bottle depth), and after installation will be around that same distance from the finished wall, or perhaps an inch or two further. I've been looking for a nice glass door/display type humidor to include in my wine cellar plans, one that would not protrude too far into the room beyond the wine racks (i.e. a max depth of 14 or 15 inches). There are a few on the market that I've seen, some pointed out in an old thread by a couple of members here, that are around 17 inches deep. However, I'm sure I'm not the only person in the universe who enjoys fine cigars and fine wine. Perhaps you should design such a creature, or several varying sizes (250, 500, 1000 count) that could be marketed directly toward folks like myself. Maybe they could be listed on some of the wine storage sites such as Apex as well, so those who are spending tons of money on nice racking would think about incorporating cigar storage as well.

Just an idea. Perhaps I'll start my own company! Hmmm....

Hey Gonz,

Are you looking for a humidor to put inside your wine cabinet/cellar? My freestanding cellar is at least 32 in. deep, a two bottle deep unit. I had it built with bulk storage on the bottom and soome on the top next to the cooling unit. But I keep my cellar between 58 - 62 degrees which from my understanding is too cold to age cigars.

I've pretty much given up on finding a humidor that I can integrate with my cellar. I even went back to the guy who made my cellar and he told me there just isn't enough of a demand for cigar cabinets to make it worth his interest. I'm currently drawing up plans to build my own temp/humdity controlled cigar cabinet and still searching for affordable refer units for such a cabinet.

Look into used refregiration units out of old Coca Cola/Pepsi Glass front door coolers. They can be modified with different voltages for different temperatures. I had one break down on me so I rigged it to be a perfect humidor/coolador for my bulk pipe tobacco. It can stay 70/70 or using a volume control in line with the power line, I can turn the refrigeration unit down to freeze cigars.

What I'm thinking of will be placed inside a walk-in wine cellar in my basement (of the house that isn't built yet, breaking ground spring '06). Currently, I'm planning on the cellar being around 9-10 ft wide by 6-7 ft deep, with the exact measurements to come once I decide on a racking system and what specific racks will be there. On the wall opposite the door, will be a half height individual bottle rack (flanked by full height racks) with a table top shelf, which will hold a display type humidor for around 200-300 cigars.

I was planning on trying to keep the cellar around 60, which I figured would be allright for cigars, since any higher than 70 can risk beetles hatching, or so I read. But that might not be accurate. And of course the humidor humidity would be exclusive of the surrounding room.

I would speculate that 62 degrees would not be too cold for long term cigar aging. I am sure there are people with more knowledge of long term than myself. I found the hardest part of "cold storage" was keeping the RH at a decent level. Once my humi got down to 60 F, the beads had a hard time keeping my medium sized box at %65 RH. But I am sure the RH oustside the box was well below %50. Just a thought.

It's very easy to build a nice in wall or walk-in humidor with nothing but cedar from lowes. My walk-in was constructed for $3000 total but the etched glass and sliding door are 2/3 of that. I think a nice in-wall one would be nice in a wine cellar, with a glass swing roor...

How do you keep it cool? is there a separate cooling unit for your humidor?

With $1500-$2000 worth of etched glass, I am sure it is plenty cool on it's own. LOL

The temp floats 65-70 I have a small vent from my central A/C in the humidor, and Humidity stays around 69-71%. I have a nice humidifier using Kinetico filtered drinking water. I don't get that calcium film on the cigars you may see at some shops that don't use soft water.

This sounds some what intruiging.

My grandfather passed while back, and I've been looking for something that will stay with me for a long time that will be from him.

I've been looking for the perfect wine rack / humidor / liquor cabinet.

How about a picture or two of it?

That's easy .... now, you have me rethinking my plans for a builtin humidor.

How about something like this? How much would this cost, in a nice dark wood?

Has anyone seen anything like this before?

How much are those? How many sticks do they hold? And do they come in a real dark almost black finish?
