Today's stick was a Cusano M1. I found it lurking deep in the bowels of the Humi in between some other sticks I snagged from a Hot Potato bomb as it passed through. I have never smoked one of these before but when I lit it I knew this needed a review.

Pre-light
The cigar is the Cusano M1 Torpedo. It is a little large for a Torp at 6x52 with a nice green and gold band. The wrapper is an aged Connecticut, almost almond colored and very smooth. Not a single imperfection on the wrapper. it looked almost too good to smoke. This is where I should have ended the experience.

I used a slanted tip cut, almost 45 degrees. I like this cut on the Torp's and Beli's as it forces the smoke onto your palate and gives more flavor IMHO. The pre-draw is smooth and inviting. On first light I can't taste anything. I mean nothing at all. Some internet research compares this to a Macanudo and so far they are right.

The first third
Still no taste. I tried long pauses between draws, hot boxing it, long ash and still no taste. I thought about leaving the plastic on next time, at least plastic has some flavor. The ash is bone white and holds well, I can make giant plumes of white smoke but no taste. The room smells like I am smoking a cigar and I touched the cherry to make sure it was really lit, but alas no taste.

The middle
Still no taste. Maybe this is like a diet cigar. You know how diet food sometimes looks like real food, smells like real food, but has no taste. Here it is, the first diet cigar. Even the wrapper has no taste. I have a cup of killer beans coffee here and after a sip, still no taste. Now the coffee rocks, but the cigar adds no value. At this point I wish I hit the Don Carlos Beli that I initially went for but it's too late.

I wonder if I could back-end the cigar in some B&B, but thought better of it. Why waste good B&B on this cigar.

Home stretch
Still no taste. Just breathing air has more tobacco taste then this cigar. At this point mild is an understatement. It would have to get stronger to be classified as mild. It makes a Macanudo appear full bodied. I am at the band now, still no taste. In retrospect I think that no taste is better then tasting like crap (see anything Natural by Drew Estates or Acid) but you really need to want this kind of cigar.

End result
If you like a mild cigar you may enjoy this. The cigar was well constructed, had great draw and lots of smoke. As a smoker who enjoys a full bodied cigar like a dark maduro, Cameroon or rosado this just didn't cut it and left me feeling incomplete and wanting for a stronger cigar. More good news is there is no aftertaste, you need some kind of taste to leave an aftertaste I guess.

I will give this cigar a 3 out of 10 and put it in the category of anti-cuban.

Where's the taste?

I had one a couple of weeks ago. Looked for my notes--no notes. It must not of been very memorable.
The cusano cc is good but the M1 is just too mild. I didn't realize it when I bought it but it is supposed to duplicate a macanudo, which nobody likes. Nicely made cigar and great burn, but wheres the beef?

Good review.

I would be one angry fish after smoking a 3 out of 10 stick :D

Thanks for the good review. It's good to see a few reviews on what NOT to smoke.
