Smoked outdoors at night 4°c

Wrapper: Connecticut Shade Natural

Dominican Binder

Length: 6 1/4 inches

Ring gage: 52

Price: Unknown, was given in a trade.

I'm a big fan of Cuesta Rey 1884 cigars, they were one of my first "good cigars" and are to this day one that I can go back to with enjoyment each and every time.

But its been a few years since I've had a Cuesta Ray cigar since I try to buy something new everytime I have the chance.

Tonight I traded one of my Rocky Patel Sun Growns with a good friend of mine for the #9.

Pre light: Really pretty cigar, well made with a nice light tan wrapper, the band is also high class, having the trademark "Rosalita girl" If your a fan of nice cigar band art this is a winner. The wrapper was dry to the touch but smooth as silk. Being a Torp, cutting was no problem.

Initial light to 2 inches in: Easy draw, mild taste with hints of toffee, alot of smoke and a nice even burn. At this point I was thinking to myself "Wow all the things I love about the 1884 in a smaller package."

3 to 4 inches in: This is where most cigars either make love to me or make me want to trash them, sadly the smoke started to taste very bitter on my tounge and had a almost nutmeg taste to it. I took a sip of spring water and it mellowed out a tad, but I already knew that I wasn't going to smoke this one to the nub. Held its light grey ash extremely well.

4 to 5 inches in: Ash still acting like it is glued on. The bitterness relaxed a bit but didn't go away. I'm a finger burner type of guy and I had enough. I butted it out with over a inch left.

All and all not the best cuesta rey I have ever smoked. It may have been the extremely cold air that ruined the taste for me, but I won't be buying any of these for myself, there are just too many less expensive better tasting cigars out there including others in the cuesta rey line.

So thats my first review, feel free to make suggestions on how to make my future reviews better :)

Try a Centrofino #60 or Centenario #60 maduro. More flavor!

It was too mild until it turned bitter. I'll stick with my #95 and 1884s when it comes to Cuesta Rey.

Yeah the natural didn't do anything for me. But the Maduro wrapper gives it a nice sweet taste.

That is too bad. I would suggest giving them another shot. This is my favorite N/C.

I just picked up another one in a trade... this one I'm going to let sit for a few months and I'll update this review when I've burnt it into ash.

lol The #9 was awesome i think he was just freezing and the cost $6.50 a stick these are prolly one of my all time favorites. myself and the other guy smoked ours all the way down.

I was freezing, lol but I don't think my taste-buds were affected :p Maybe it was that nasty pear-schnapps Larry's wife forced us to drink before we went out on the balcony.

If the cigar got bitter that fast I would suggest cutting a lot more off the tip of the pyramid. If you have the hole too small the tar will build up amd make for a very bitter experience.
