I fell in love with Cuban cigars on a recent trip and would love to get some suggestions on legal cigars that are on par with or at least close to the illegals. Thanks, Steve

The reason you probably haven't received any replies to this point is not because your question lacks validity but more so about the difficulty in answering such a question. In my opinion, so many people get CUBAN on their mind and think everything else is inferior, which is absolutely not the case. There are so many GREAT cigars out there that are available to all of us in US and don't wear the name Cuban. As far as providing you some kind of useful reply... check out Don Pepin. There are some great cigars that Don Pepin has created that I'm sure you will very much enjoy. If you aren't familiar with Don Pepin, run a search and you will find a plethora of information that I'm sure will help.

Could also be because he asked it here and did get responses to this thread.

you could always buy the dominican counterpart, and when you smoke it, close your eyes real hard and pretend.

I find that a lot of the legal counterparts have semi-similar tastes, or at least initially similar tastes. Sancho panza has a similar taste, but not quite as refined. Same thing with the montecristo line (regular montecristo line). Hoyo is also kinda similar as well is bolivar. Cohiba line is hit and miss. Then again, there were two cohibas back in the day, red dot and yellow band. stay away from yellow band!

I actually enjoy some of the other montecristo lines.
