Crown Royal XR gone or gimmick?

My wife has bought me to bottles of these already. I have one left unopened - not too impressed with it.

Well it's no pappy but yea I have one unopened bottle too. It's more of an eye candy piece for friends who drink crown.

I've been hearing that it's going away for a couple years now. Two things stand out as contradictory here. One, it's not at all difficult to find and two, the price actually went down. At one time it was around $180 for a bottle but it can be purchased for $100-110 these days.

True. Plus it's a blend from Waterloo I believe so who knows how much in there is actually from that distillery.

I like Cast 16 better than XR. I have never been real impressed with the XR, and at double the price it just wasn't worth it.

I need to try some Pappy, everyone here seems to think it's the best....

Let me know if you find any...

Try that Jefferson's that AVB put up on another thread. I've been meaning to buy some.

Not a bad idea. I'll take a look for it locally. Hate ordering booze as the shipping cost is so damn high.

The XR was made from the Waterloo distillery which burnt down so there won't be any more. At some point they have to run out but how much was stockpiled is the unknown.

I spoke to a master of whiskey who works for them. He said at the current rate of sales they shouldn't last past 2012.
