Ok this is good! Buy some!

This is one of the six classic malts of Scotland. This is the Speyside representative. It's very good. Pretty smoky and peaty, can also give you a little floral nose as well. Not as smoky as Talisker, the smokiest of the 6 calssics, from the Isle of Skye.

Ok that's it, I recommend it neat on the rocks. No need for water. Good stuff, and watch out, it's a little TOO good, if ya know what I mean!

so good you spell old with a p??

I've looked and I've thought but I can't begin to understand the "so good you spell old with a p??" comment. Somebody clue me in. I hate to think I'm getting so out of it.

Look at the title of the post!

And Ludwig: YES!

Just shoot me now and put me out of my misery.

Don't shoot yourself. Think of the scotch, and how lonely it would be without you. :D

I've enjoyed the Cragganmore. I was at a single malt scoth tasting and this was the most popular top pick.

I decided, based primarily on AVB's posts, to give Scotch a try. I've been one that really enjoys an Anejo Tequila, or a good aged rum. But I'd never tried scotch. Probably, because as a young 'un I snuck into my dads liquor vault and sampled scotch, but found my pallate was not quite developed (in other words, IT SUCKED). Most likely because my father was not a very refined scotch drinker, and in all likelihood had some el cheapo mixing scotch....

Having really enjoyed cigars, and hearing my brothers on this board talk about the subtle flavors of scotch, I decided to give it a try. I picked up a bottle of Cragganmore 12 yr. old based on the recommendation of the store owner (I was actually eyeballing the Dalmore Cigar Malt scotch and the clerk thought I might be a tad bit better off with the Cragganmore). Off I went to the back yard (thank God for spring!!!) - with an Opus X and the bottle of Cragganmore...

My idea of any good spirit is it's ability to be appealing to me straight up. That's why I like Anejo Tequila's so much. If I can sip it without it burning out my guts, I'm interested. The Cragganmore definitely fit the bill!!!

What I found spectacular was the incredible citrus, almost orange type flavor I immediately tasted! I think that's the first time I've ever tasted a very defined, specific flavor in a straight up spirit. Most times (as in Tequila) I recognize the unique, sour taste that I enjoy, then I taste a certain smokiness, but never a straight up recognizeable flavor. Sometime there's a bit of sweetness in Tequila, but never a clearly defined citrus flavor like I did in the scotch.

After that intial taste, the complexity of the scotch came pouring through - the smoky taste, sandlewood, a light touch of oak - all swirling around in each sip. So much complexity I wanted to savor each sip to identify what it was I was tasting. I found myself forgoeing adding any ice because I wanted to truly taste what was in the scotch. Each sip was quite an experience!!! And with a cigar - it was absolute heaven!!!

What a great scotch the Cragganmore is!!! I'm hoping to sample others in the not to distant future!

And I agree with Ludwig - this is good - real good - buy some!!!

I like my spirtis w/ 2 small ice cubes. In addition to cooling the drink a hair, the little bit of water seems to open up more of the subtler flavors.
