The $40 million question: Should Sox break bank for Varitek? God bless, Scott Boras. All of sudden, hitting a baseball doesn't matter as much as we numbskulls thought it does. The super agent is at it again. He is asking for the same deal Jason Varitek got when he was a decent hitter - four years at $40 million .... GUARANTEED!

I love Tek. He's a hell of a catcher. He's also 37 and can't hit .250. Good catchers are hard to come by, but teams have won WS with worse. I say, By, by.

Doc.

I think it's time for the Phils to part ways with Burrell, sadly to say. Probably Moyer too since he's 90.

It's gonna be insane to see what Manny and Sabathia get paid by somebody.

I'm hoping the Twins make a play for Garrett Atkins of the Rockies. It would be nice to have another power bat in the line up.

The Astros need PITCHING and just signed Hawkins to a one year deal.

Hey Doc, I see The Red Sox have Jason Lane on their Hot Stove list. He's a former Astro who I always liked but he's hit some rough going in the past couple of years. I hope he can revive his career, he's only 31 years old.

Mets just signed a pitcher. Reliever you might have heard of. Francisco Rodriguez.

I'm a Twins fan so forgive my ignorance, but don't MOST catchers hit closer to .350 then .250 or is it just ours?? :whistling:

I'd rather the Mets signed Wood and Teixeira than K-Rod alone.

Wood? Kerry Wood? HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA

After his performance last year, he'll be lucky to spend under 3 months on the DL. Sorry. I'd rather trot Wagner's limp a$$ out there to close than bring Wood in.

As a Yanks fan, I hope the Sox sign Tek, he was great but he is past his prime. It would be nice to have a whole in their line-up.

Pat the Bat is not worth the Phils money but who do they get to replace him? He stepped it up this year but

Yanks are sitting on a ton of cash but CC is not interested in going there at all despite the cash. I have a feeling the Yank slide maybe just beginning. They need another top line starter and outside CC, I am not nuts about Burnett and his arm problems. They do have good young pitchers but they are unproven and injury prone too. Then there is that Arod guy....

The Reds traded Ryan Freel to the Orioles for Ramon Hernandez. Freel was my favorite player b/c he played all out, like Pete Rose. However, he is a utility player and the reds needed a veteran catcher.

I approve of the deal.

Wagner is out for the year with that injury and no one in the bullpen apparently didn't have the stomach to close games. Fuentes priced himself waaay out. Wood would've been a logical choice, about a $18 million cheaper choice and maybe enough cash left over for Tex.

They signed K-Rod, I'm happy but now what? The Mets gave Delgado a "Leiter contract," when they opted to pick up the club option rather than listen to reason. Leiter stunk up the place in his final year at Shea and I think Delgado would do the same. Mets are very thin in the farm system and now even thinner being that they have to give up next years #1 pick to the Angels and maybe #2 if they sign old man Lowe.

As a diehard mets fan since the early 90s... im very cautious of big name guys coming to the mets to play but I am definitely excited we got K-Rod. Hopefully he doesn't turn out to be a big bust but we have a history of that happening (Mo Vaughn, Robby Alomar, Pedro) ... hopefully the next signing will be Lowe and a trade for Street.

Lets Go Mets!

They're now reporting that CC wanted to include a clause in the contract that let's him opt out of the contract after 3 years. Pretty smart

I hope they stay away from Lowe. Last thing we need is another so-so pitcher. Ben Sheets is worth a gamble and so is Burnett. And if we sign Lowe, they lose a #2 round draft pick to the Dodgers.

The mets acquired JJ Putz! They weren't kidding when they said they wanted to do addition by subtraction. Losing Endy Chavez (sentimental reasons), and Joe Smith (potential) is tough though IMO. Heilman is finally gone which is good for everyone, including him.

Man I love winter meetings and offseason baseball! Business sure has picked up.

Lets Go Mets!

P.S. Can anyone believe The Nationals offered Texiera 8 years $160 million...

I'm an Astros fan and they signed Mike Hampton several days ago. If that doesn't get the local fan base fired up then their wood is wet!!

I wish we had something to trade with to get Jake Peavy. The Astros are actually one of the 5 teams that he agreed to be traded to, but I just don't see it happening because they don't have much down on the farm right now. He and Roy O. would make a nice one-two punch.

When will Oswalt smarten up and sign with the Mets instead of sitting up in mediocre-ville? :p

Back off, Mets fan! I still haven't forgiven you guys for 1986. Jerks!

The Astros were smart enough to lock him up long term last year, but for Mets fans he would look good next to Santana in their starting rotation.
