Coolidor questions

Hey guys,

I got a 50ct humidor for Christmas with about 20 nice samplers with it. I've bought a few since then (and of course smoked a few), I just received a 20 cigar CAO sampler this week and then immediately the next day I ordered a 20 cigar bundle if a cheaper cigar (Vegas Telanga) as a give away for non-smokers who want to give it a shot and need to bum a smoke. So I found myself with 60 cigars in a 50 cigar humidor.

I today created a coolidor. I used 28qt cooler and have 5(empty) cigar boxes in there with silca kitty litter and a digital humidity gauge. I do have a few questions:

1. Should I keep the loose cigars in the boxes or loose in the coolidor?

2. Should I keep boxes closed or open and it it ok to stack them?

3. How long should the CAO's be rested before they are smoked? They only spent one day in transit.

Thanks and any more advice would be awesome.

I'm not a fan of using kitty litter to humidify your cigars, but if it works for you, that's fine. :)

1.) Keep the cigars in the boxes; it'll help keep them from getting damaged.

2.) Assuming the kitty litter maintains proper RH, close the lids on the boxes. Depends on how tight of a seal - I tend to leave most of my boxes in the coolerdor slightly ajar.

3.) You can smoke the CAO's right away.

Just my suggestions, opinions vary, hope this helps. Good luck with the new hobby! You mine as well place an order for a larger cooler, because you're going to need it. ;)

I've used kitty litter in the past....

It works...but I soon switched over to beads...so much easier, absolutely no aroma, and NO MESS!

I would only add make sure the boxes have equibrated to the humidity. If the boxes are dry and you add your cigars and close the boxes, the cigars could dry out before the whole "package" equilibrates. I always store in boxes in my collidor, lids closed. If I add an empty box, I open the lid and put it in empty and let it sit for several days to a couple weeks.

Like smoking cigars, having a humidor should be a relatively easy-going thing my friend, so don't stress over it too much[/color]. I made a coolidor myself, and she's a beauty. If you have any cooler questions, feel free to PM me anytime. ;)

Ha, how can you not and who hasn't. The wifey used to give me so much crap "Why do you have to open that thing every hour?" lol... Oh well, it was fun. Now I stress about where to put the new ones..
