Coolerdor - How often to open....?

Gents - greetings.

'Bout that time of year when the temperatures start to climb and I'm thinking the right spot for the coolerdor with all it's treasure is under my house, where even on a very hot day it never gets above 68-70F. Our house isn't AC'd as it's really not a "necessity" here in the PacNW. While it may get up to 80-90+ during the day, it always cools off at night, so we've never bothered with AC. We just open the windows and run some fans.

I have an access door that makes getting under the house relatively easy. Our crawlspace is actually pretty nice; Most of the crawlspace has almost 5' of vertical clearance. I've got lights hung up and some pallats under there and we store things that we don't need constant access to down there.

So...my question is: How often should the coolerdor be opened up so it can "air out"..?? Due to the fact that they pretty much "don't" breathe, I've heard that you should open them "now and then" to let the CO2 / Ammonia out and some fresh air in.

How often would you guys suggest for "now and then"...?? Once a week? Once a month? Or...??

Thanks in advance - B.B.S.

I think once a month if sufficient though I doubt you'll be able to go even that long :D I know I have to take a peek inside mine at least once a week :whistling:

Unless you're kinda weird I think opening it as often as you smoke will be fine.

...well, I am "kinda weird" but that isn't the issue....

I have two desktop humis that live on my desk at home. The coolerdor is used primarily for aging / "long term" storage. The desktops get opened at least once a day, but the cooler doesn't.

Thanks - B.B.S.

What is your address? I will come by in the night and make sure it gets opened OFTEN! :whistling:

You are lucky it get to only 80 or 90 . . . here in Sacramento CA it can get over 100 and sometimes over 105 :0

Nothing will go wrong if you leave it closed. The cigars will just age more slowly than if they get more airflow. Also helps to check on em for signs of beetle damage and whatnot.

It's been over 90 every day this week in NYC. I miss the snow... :whistling:

My friend, if you happen to be in the PDX area shoot me a PM and we'll open the sucker up, to be sure.....

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I am worried about beetles so I think when the temps head north of 80, I'll store the cooler as I mentioned and check in about once every two weeks or so....or until I drain my two desktops, whichever comes first.....

Cheers - B.B.S.

PDX is Portland OR's airport abbreviation. Vancouver WA is right across the river...

I open my cooler every other day, I like to look at it and usually I am adding taking cigars out to send inthe mail.
