converting Danby DWC286BLS Wine Fridge to Humidor

Hello Gentlemen!

I purchased a wine fridge off of craigslist today for $40, the fridge was not cooling anymore so the gentleman i got it from decided to sell it to me for next to nothing (it costs $400 new!) I looked up a couple of links to set this bad boy up including this one: http://www.cigarchoice.net/?p=230
what do yall think about that? I set it up in an area by my kitchen that was perfect for it (already have my desktop humi set up there) anywho, i cleaned it using mild dishwashing detergent, luckily it has cedar trays so it already smells like a humidor inside! it came with these two plastic tubs that i cleaned and filled with distilled water to humidifie it, i also put an empty cigar box in it (God of Fires yummy cigars!) with strips of cedar and a cheap hygrometer just for a ballpark humidity level. Let me know what yall think! thanks!

Very nice! I would just change those tubs of water to some humidification beads and you're off. You will have plenty of cedar smell in there once you fill it up. So, no need to add more with the strips, or other.

I strongly recommend those over Heartfelt. I made the switch about a year and a half ago. Half the price and just as effective. I live in New England so we have to fight the elements. In the summer we need to absorb humidity, in the winter we need to add humidity. Works great during both. During summer time I didn't add any water to my beads. I was at 68* humidity without adding water from June to October.

I strongly recommend those over Heartfelt. I made the switch about a year and a half ago. Half the price and just as effective. I live in New England so we have to fight the elements. May I ask why you would strongly recommend these over the Heartfelt? Out of curiosity, nothing malicious.

I'm just guessing that it is because of this part that I bolded. Other than that it seems to me to be basically the same product; works identically etc. I think I'm sticking with Heartfelt, however. :thumbs:

I'm surprised someone didn't say dump the analog hygrometer and get a adjustable digital. Then get a Boveda calibration pack, sync it in and you are ready for some serious buying. Oh, he'll of a deal on the box.
