Cigar: Consuegra No. 9
Type: This is classified as a "factory second".
From: The manufacturers of Hoyo de Monterey, Punch, Belinda, Rey Del Mundo
Price: 25 cigars for $22.00
Decided to light up one of my new No. 9's this evening. Overall, not a bad smoke. It's definitely young, but was an enjoyable ~30 minute cigar. It started off with a grassy taste. About 5 or so minutes into the cigar it had a lot of coffee flavor (tasted like straight black semi-strong coffee). Towards the end there were hints of chocolate. The over all burn was pretty good. In the beginning, the wrapper was burning too fast, but about 10 minutes into it the burn was much better. I did not have to relight the cigar once; the burn was very good. Nicely constructed as well. Draw was close to perfect.
This cigar is really on the mild side. I prefer more fuller bodied cigars with a peppery characteristic. Unfortunately this one didn't have the kick I was looking for. Again, a great cigar for the price (less than a $1 a stick!). I'll make this my "evening walk - go to" cigar.
I'm going to let some of these sit for at least a year and see how they change.
Here's a picture of the cigar:
If you're looking to purchase and try some Consuegra's (aka Connies), check out JR Cigars. There are many sizes/types available.
